3 years ago, Christopher would rather climb multiple chairs and risk falling over than to ask his mom or dad to get him a goldfish from the top shelf. Christopher is among 1 in 42 males affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in Canada.
After trying different unsuccessful services to help Christopher communicate and learn age-appropriate behaviours, his mom stumbled upon Shining Through Centre on the internet. This changed everything!
Today, thanks to the intensive early intervention program at the Shining Through Centre, Christopher learned to ask for his favourite snack (goldfish) sooner than expected. Shortly after that, he learned to give his mom kisses and talk about the changes in the weather.
Although he has autism, his achievements at Shining Through have dramatically improved his quality of life. It's easy to take our ability to communicate for granted. It takes time, commitment and expertise in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) to help children with autism to break through their barriers of not being able to communicate effectively.
Shining Through Centre says yes to children with autism having dreams! We say yes to families having hope for their loved ones with autism! With 20 years of experience and reliance on evidence-based intervention derived from the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), we know that we have had a positive impact on every child and family member that has walked through our doors. From a parent hearing their child speak to siblings being able to play and bond with each other, we have helped them reach their fullest potential.
