Monthly Newsletter | May 2020
Welcome to the latest edition of All Pet and Home Care's newsletter. We sure do miss you all! This month we have a tasty dog/cat treat recipe for you that is easy to make at home. We will be sharing with you our excitement about the “goodie bags” we were able to put together with the generous help of some of our favorite pet businesses.

We gave the bags to our friends at the Butler County Humane Society to go home with every newly adopted pet. Speaking of our favorite businesses, one of those generous goodie bag donors is Dr. Silvis, owner of Pets In Harmony Veterinary Hospital. Read all about them in our feature, “Businesses we love”. Our resident Chihuahua, Pablo, offers up some tasty tidbits about his pick of the month- raw, meaty bones. He would also like you to know that he and his feline "sister" really like the treat we provided the recipe for! Happy reading!

Oh, and don't forget to check-out our new YouTube channel, Poop Bags and Litter Boxes... if you haven't already!

All Pet Initiates Donation Effort for BCHS Pet Adoptions

Here is a Good News story! A few months back, Maureen came up with the idea to give “goodie bags” to anyone who adopts a cat or dog (or both) from the Butler County Humane Society. We began asking some of our friends in the local pet industry if they would be interested in contributing items and information. We were overwhelmed by their interest and excitement to participate.

Due to some challenges that the pandemic created our project was delayed. I am happy and proud to announce that since May 9 the bags are going home with pets! This was an absolute labor of love. We are so grateful to the BCHS for all of the hard work they put in to saving animals. And everyone who contributed items cares deeply for the health and wellbeing of all animals. It was truly our pleasure to give some gifts and tips to start these pets off on the right “paw” with their new families!

Below is a list of our generous contributors and what they provided. Consider supporting them. We assure you they will treat your pets like their own. If you would like to hear more about the bags, Maureen explains them in detail on our YouTube channel, Poop Bags and Litter Boxes.

We would like to extend a big thank you to the following businesses for their participation.

Pablo's Pick: Raw Bones

Pablo chose meaty, raw bones as his pick of the month for May. Raw bones are essential for canine dental health. The raw bone assists in removing tartar from teeth. They also promote saliva production, which helps cleanse the mouth. Raw bones offer dogs the opportunity to eat as they would in the wild. This provides important mental stimulation for our dogs. And they are tasty. Just ask Pablo!

Be sure to only choose RAW bones. They are flexible and do not splinter. Avoid cooked and smoked bones. Smoked bones have the potential to splinter and cooked bones WILL splinter. Splintering is dangerous and can cause esophageal tears and choking. And, as with any chew treat, always monitor your dog.

Never fear raw bones! Above, Pablo is enjoying a raw pork chop bone. He also loves beef marrow bones and chicken and turkey necks. Answers Pet Food carries pig feet and chicken feet. You may find commercially available bones in your finer pet food stores, like our favorite store, The Holistic Pet Nutrition Center in Harmony. Pablo's favorites are made by Tucker's and Primal. Or, you may cut the bone off of your cut of meat before grilling, like we do! Oh, Pablo. You are so spoiled!

Treat Time!
Super Easy Crunchy Beef Bite Recipe

Here is a very simple recipe for a healthy homemade treat. Dogs and cats alike love them!

*Note: if you are making these for cats, make the cubes or balls smaller.

All you need is 1 pound of lean ground beef and a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  • Dice the beef into ½” cubes, or roll into ½” balls.
  • Place close together on baking sheet and place in unheated oven. Bake 1 hour at 300 degrees.
  • Reduce oven temperature to 200 degrees, prop oven door open to allow moisture to escape, and bake an additional two hours this way.
  • Allow bites to dry at room temperature overnight. Place in an airtight container and store in refrigerator or freezer until ready to serve.

Heartfelt Goodbyes

Our pets are important members of our family. That is why it is so hard to say goodbye. We would like to take a moment to remember our beautiful friends we lost. Our sincere condolences go out to their families- both two-legged and four-legged. Even though we may not see them, they are always right beside us and forever in our hearts and memories. May they all run free over the Rainbow Bridge.
Elsa H. - Elsa was a favorite of the All Pet family. She was a sweet and fun girl. She loved to explore her big backyard with her brother Mojo. She enjoyed walks with her family and cuddles. Elsa was also one tough cookie! She beat cancer, not once, but TWICE! She was a happy girl who was a beloved member of the family. Our hearts go out to them.

Business We Love:
Pets In Harmony Veterinary Hospital

This is an easy feature for us to write, as we are happy clients at Pets In Harmony!

Pets In Harmony is a full service veterinary hospital located at 120 Perry Highway in Harmony, PA. They are open every day except Wednesdays and Sundays. They also offer house call and physical rehabilitation services.

Pets In Harmony is owned and operated by Dr. Brian Silvis. Dr. Silvis also owns Allegheny North Veterinary Hospital and Tender Touch Veterinary Hospital, both located in the North Hills area. Dr. Silvis primarily sees patients in Harmony, but he works at all three locations and provides his house call services throughout the North Hills.

Dr. Silvis has assembled the most knowledgeable, caring staff at Pets In Harmony. I feel comfortable putting my pets' care in any of their capable hands. They understand the importance of a thorough physical exam for your pet, and answer any questions you may have.  And not only are they caring, they are also affordable. You never feel pressured or guilted into anything. You are an active decision maker in the treatment of your pet. I cannot stress enough how important that is to me. Dr. Silvis knows that I have some different feeding ideas, etc. than he does. Yet he still respects my choices and continues to offer top of the line care.

Most importantly, they take their time. I have never felt like I am being rushed through an appointment there. That is also why I am extra patient on the rare occasion when they may be running behind.
Pets In Harmony also operates a full service pet salon in the same plaza as the veterinary hospital.
