Dear friends and colleagues,

Happy Thursday! We trust this newsletter finds you well. Here are a few events happening in the next couple of weeks. We hope to see you in some, if not all, of them!

And to all the meanies out there... Happy Mean Girls day!

This Week:

Town Hall and Board Meeting
This year, EGSA officers will be meeting every first Friday of the month from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, at Decio 235. The purpose of these meetings is mostly to organize our semester events. However, we will be using the first 15 minutes to serve as a town hall meeting, where every member of our department can come and talk to us, discuss any concerns they might have, and/or ask questions to the board.

Join us for our next meeting tomorrow, Friday, October 4th at 1:00pm. See you there!
Grad Student Appreciation Week
Starting this past Monday, Notre Dame has been celebrating Grad Student Appreciation Week. We also had a lovely pizza party organized by the amazing Alissa Doroh! There are still a number of events planned for this week, however, so the celebrations are far from over. Keep your eyes open for the email from Grad Life, or visit their calendar through the following link:

Next Week:

OcktoberFest Happy Hour!

We could all use a bit of a break. Come join your fellow EGSA members at O'Rourkes on Wednesday October 9th between 4:00-6:00pm. Per usual, EGSA will provide the appetizers and the fun, but you'll be responsible for your own drinks.
Other Events:

Annual EGSA Halloween party
It's finally OCTOBER! So that means we have roughly one month to prepare our best costumes. However, we still do not have a place to host our annual EGSA Halloween party. If you'd be willing to host this party on November 1st, please fill out the form below:

First Year Panel for new PhDs
Organized by Quality of Life Chair Emily McLemore and Professional Development Chair Emily Donahoe, our annual panel for first-year students will take place sometime in October, before Fall Break. The panel will be composed of English graduate students at various stages in the program and is designed to address any questions or concerns new PhD students have about the program or about life as a graduate student.
In addition, the Quality of Life Chair, Emily McLemore, is in the process of coordinating a workshop with a representative from the McDonald Center for Student Well Being with first-year students especially in mind but which will, of course, be open to all English graduate students. The tentative date is Friday, November 11th. If anyone has anything in mind that they would like addressed in that workshop, it'd be great to hear from you. You can contact Emily via email at
New EGSA listserv
In our last town hall meeting, some students brought up the idea of creating an EGSA grad student communication platform without moderation so that students can communicate with each other regarding social events or questions like tracking library books. We would like to get your input on this idea, and which platform might be more convenient, so please complete this brief survey.
Listserv Survey
Please note that, if we do start a new communication platform, there will be a list of guidelines in order to keep this as a professional forum.  If these guidelines are broken, access may be restricted. Moreover, while the listserv will not be moderated by the administration, they will still have the ability to view conversations since they are responsible for overseeing the student organization on behalf of SAO. This new listserv is an opt-in option and not required of students to participate. As such, all students will receive an option to subscribe before the platform is open to be used.
We want to hear from you!
