The Seventh Pentacle of Jupiter

From the Greater Key of Solomon: “It hath great power against poverty, if thou considerest it with devotion, repeating the versicle. It serveth furthermore to drive away those Spirits who guard treasures, and to discover the same.”

The Seventh Pentacle of Jupiter is a potent and often overlooked bringer of material comfort for those in need. While the Second of Jupiter steals the spotlight for its ability to fill one’s cup, the Seventh of Jupiter will help those who don’t have a cup to fill. It is a good pentacle to help when people are in an extremely bad financial situation. I have seen this pentacle help lift a family of four out of homelessness. Other owners of this pentacle have received warm clothes, and unexpected gifts of cash or gift cards.

Most folks reading this newsletter would likely be better off personally with the Second of Jupiter, however buying a Seventh of Jupiter to gift to someone in need can serve as a powerful act of planetary charity. Our guest columnist Sasha Ravitch will explain:

What, exactly, is planetary charity? Planetary charity is a respected and efficacious technique, meant to improve your relationship with a particular planet. Stemming from the Vedic astrology of India, planetary charity endeavors to remediate the negative impact of certain planets’ influences upon us, while helping to either curry favor and blessings, or at least mercy from more malefic planets. The core praxis of the technique involves an act (or a series of acts) of charity from the individual looking to gain favor or lessen harsh influence from the planet. It can help reduce the negative influence a planet has either natally, or by transit, as well as strengthen our supportive relationships with benefic planets and their influences. Planetary charity can be done for every (classical) planet, and is often considered a safer way of interfacing with the spheres which you have a natally complicated relationship with.

When one wants to engage in an act of planetary charity, we first identify which planet we wish to propitiate, and whose “children” belong to that planet.  We are focusing on Jupiter’s pentacle here, so we will walk through the process with this sphere, in particular. Jupiter’s children are politicians, students, theologians, lawyers, professors, and folks of learning, faith, and politik.. On a Thursday, Jupiter’s day, during one of his planetary hours (I recommend the first, which occurs at dawn), we would propitiate the planet through invocation and prayer. One could use Orphic Hymns, Hygromanteia, or the Picatrix, or, since we are talking about Jupiter here, why not compile all of them, and write your own as well? After we have thoroughly called to Jupiter, perhaps suffumigating with frankincense and making offerings of food and drink, we outline to him our acts of charity we are committing to, and what we are asking him for in return.

People will often donate money, but I believe that gifting the Seventh Pentacle of Jupiter to an individual in need, especially if they are “Jupiter’s child”, would be a most excellent offering.  Consider, for instance, procuring four (Jupiter’s number) of these pentacles, and promising Jupiter that you would gift these pentacles on four consecutive Thursday’s to a total of four students who are struggling financially or can’t secure the tuition money they need. Here, we incorporate multiples of his planetary number, include his planetary day, and engage in charity with his planetary children. Jupiter is also representative of Father’s, and one could, in fact, gift the pentacle to four Single Fathers supporting their family.  Considering that Jupiter is about to leave its sign of detriment (Capricorn), and enter the radical earth-shaking humanitarian, Aquarius, acts of charity which benefit those often forgotten or eschewed will be especially auspicious.

Worth mentioning, too, is that Saturn and Jupiter will continue to be co-present in the sky, as they are both entering Aquarius in December.  Many individuals are experiencing how these two “Greater” spheres are impacting and influencing each other, and most Saturn magic being done feels touched by Jupiter, and vice versa. If you also have Saturn and Jupiter in relationship in your nativity, making them individually hard to touch because they set one another off, one could gift a series of four of the Seventh Pentacle of Jupiter to four unhoused folks, or elders suffering to get access to their social security, as a way of acknowledging the inextricable connection Saturn and Jupiter are currently sharing, and receiving a nod from both of these firmament-touching spheres.

A final note: I sincerely and utterly urge you to not promise a planet that you will engage in planetary charity, and then fail to do so.  Breaking promises we make to these great spheres often results in consequences which are far worse, and far more difficult to recover from, than whatever potential struggles we were experiencing originally. Do not promise what you cannot give, and do not overcommit. A single Seventh Pentacle of Jupiter gifted in earnest to someone struggling with their financials will do you a world more good with Jupiter, than if you commit to donating four of the pentacles and only end up donating three. Charity from a place of honest giving, from humility, and from not disrupting your own stability is essential! Otherwise, it is bravado and you will be punished for it.
