Library Plaza Update-
Art Museum Construction Removed
The Santa Barbara Public Library and Santa Barbara Public Library Foundation are thrilled to announce that the Santa Barbara Art Museum has removed their construction materials from the center of Library Plaza on July 28th.

The Santa Barbara Public Library Foundation is moving forward with Library Plaza Campaign efforts to build an outdoor space that is needed now more than ever for our Library and community. As the Art Museum project comes to an end, it is clear Library Plaza requires a major revitalization for safety and function.

Disability Visibility
edited by Alice Wong

20% of Americans live with a disability—some visible, some not, but they are always underrepresented in the media and popular culture. For the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, activist Alice Wong has compiled stories from a myriad of perspectives of people with disabilities. This collection is so eye-opening, and I was impressed with the wide array of voices and formats represented. I was also struck by how powerful centering the perspectives of people with disabilities can be in creating better institutions for everyone.
You’re Not Listening: What You’re Missing and Why It Matters
by Kate Murphy

Between distractions of being constantly plugged in and the increasing divisiveness of public discourse, a lot of people struggle to listen. While profiling leaders renowned for their listening skills, Murphy shares strategies for becoming a better listener and explains why this ability is so important.
The Unreality of Memory and Other Essays
by Elisa Gabbert

We are living in a moment where it’s easy to feel as if the world (or at least the one we know) is on the precipice of collapse and that you’re losing your mind. Gabbert assures you both are true in these compelling, well-researched essays that are both full of incisive wit and casually brilliant, written in the language of a poet. Still, this collection is not without hope. Timely, important, inspiring.
