11th Annual Dreaming Big Recap
We are so grateful to our community of supporters who sponsored and attended our 11th Annual Dreaming Big event on Oct. 21st! It was wonderful to be back in person for the first time since 2019. We shared stories from our 10 year history, gave updates on what’s happening in our classrooms and on our Real World Learning expeditions, as well as gave a peek into our future….We’re very excited to announce we’re refocusing our efforts on our capital campaign to raise funds to build our community center and gym at 9th and Washington! We plan to utilize this space for everything from school pep rallies, dances and sporting events to adult education classes and professional development. The downtown community has given so much to Crossroads and we want to give back. This is not just a Crossroads space, this is a community space. If you would like to part of this effort, here are three ways you can get involved:
  • Treasure: Consider making a donation of $10, $1000, $10,000…or any iteration of 10, to commemorate our 10th year.
  • Talent: Help connect us to those who would support this incredible community space.
  • Time: Help us develop creative ways to incorporate parents, families, students and donors so their legacy is honored in this space.
Thank you for supporting the BIG DREAMS of our scholars!
Central Street Annual Toy Drive: We will be collecting toys from November 1-December 5. Please click here for more info including the wish list!

Central Street Care Closet & Pantry is OPEN: The Care Closet and Pantry is officially open to all Central Street scholars, family and staff! Click here for hours and info. Also, holiday food boxes will be available starting on Nov. 14, reservations are required. Click here for more info.

Basketball Update from Coach Tipton - Volunteer Coaches Needed: We have (17) 5th grade boys signed up from both QH & CS. As of now we have (0) coaches for the boys' teams. If any parent/guardian is interested, please reach out to Coach Tipton at ktipton@crossroadsschoolskc.org. Thank you!

Parking at QH: Parents picking up and dropping off students in the rear parking lot of Quality Hill will find new markings on the lot to indicate where to stop to pick up students. Parents should stop their vehicle at the line marked "Stop Here Child Pickup" so as to not block the 4 last parking spots in the lot. We share the lot with neighbors and this helps to not block their cars in at the end of the day during dismissal.

-Note from the Nurses-

Healthe Kids Screenings - Tues., Nov. 8th

This year's health screening event will occur on Tuesday, November 8th. Your child was sent home with a consent form for our annual student health screenings over the last few weeks.

If you would like your child to participate, and have not yet filled out and returned the paper form, please fill out and sign the consent form, and return it to school with your child. You may also fill out the form on your Infinite Campus Parent Portal; the "Healthe Kids Screening" form is located under "Documents" in the 22-23 school year.

During the health screenings, a registered nurse will perform the following screenings:

  • Vision (near and far)
  • Hearing
  • Vital signs
  • Head to toe screening (ears, throat, teeth, heart, spine, etc)

If you would not like your child to participate please email your campus nurse to let her know, or return the form with a short note saying you do not want your child to participate. This just helps us know that we don't need to follow up again later. Students will not participate, regardless, unless we have a signed permission form.

  • KCMO Health Department: Click here for info from the Health Department where they accept appointments and walk-ins for all your immunization needs including required and recommended vaccines for students, no cost options for families that qualify and more.
  • CDC - Well Visits & Vaccinations: Click here for info on getting caught up on well-child visits and recommended vaccinations.

University Health Behavioral Health Futures Community Program: This grant-funded program provides outpatient behavioral health services to youth and young adults up to age 25 and their families in a caring and trauma-informed manner. University Health (formerly Truman) will work in tandem with the Crossroads staff to provide additional wrap-around services for families at all Crossroads campuses. Services are offered year 'round. Click here to learn more.

-Good News-
As you know, the annual Healthe Kids Screening event is coming up next week which is available to all students at no cost! We are fortunate to have healthcare professionals from the Cerner Charitable Foundation conduct our student health screenings each year at no cost to our school or families. This is particularly important as it provides an annual vision, hearing, and scoliosis screening for all students who are opted in. Please see the "Note from the Nurses" section above if you still need to fill out for your form so your student(s) can participate!
