Brothers & Sisters,

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— Ephesians 1:3-5 NIV

This is one of my favorite passages of the Bible. It contains powerful promises to us as followers of the Triune God: Father, Son, and Spirit.

First, the Father "has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ." Notice, we did nor earn every spiritual blessing in Jesus. The Father in His grace and mercy has given us these blessings. We should be thankful for the countless ways that God provides for us.

In addition, these blessings are spiritual. As believers we are not promises material prosperity. We are not guaranteed to have good help. However, the gifts that we receive from the Lord are far more important than health or money.

Also God chose us in Jesus before the creation of the world. The Triune God had a plan for us to be adopted as daughters and sons before He made the universe. Our all knowing and all powerful Lord knew our needs before He created any of us.

We are not called servants of God. We are not mentioned as employees. Yahweh brought all who accept Jesus as Lord and Savior into His family. No matter if you do not have an earthly father or mother, if you are a disciple of Christ, you have a Heavenly Father who loves you. Rejoice because of the good news of the gospel. Rejoice because you are part of the family of God.

The Family of God

by Bill & Gloria Gaither

I'm so glad I'm a part of the Family of God,
I've been washed in the fountain, cleansed by His blood!
Joint heirs with Jesus as we travel this sod,
For I'm part of the family,
The Family of God.
