CALLING ALL ORTHODONTISTS AND TEAM MEMBERS! We will feature up-and-coming speakers during the 2021 Western Orthodontic Conference (WOCon) with a 30-minute lecture slot to talk about something amazing. This is a unique opportunity for people in orthodontics to present their clinical tips and tricks, scientific research, practice management, and business administration ideas to the entire PCSO & RMSO. Speakers chosen will receive complimentary registration for the WOCon meeting in Portland, October 2021.

Feel free to share this information with other orthodontists, specialists, team members, and speakers that may be outside of the PCSO/RMSO region but have something great to share.

Urge Congress to Act on COVID Relief before December 31

Over the summer, the AAO encouraged members to write to their legislators to add funding and flexibility to the Payroll Protection Program (PPP) program. Thanks to your efforts, Congress passed legislation that expanded the funding and flexibility of the PPP.

Now, the AAO encourages you to contact your Congressional representatives, urging them to pass a new COVID-19 relief package before the end of the year. Specifically, we ask that you encourage your senators and representatives to support provisions that are important to orthodontists.

Advocacy Resources and Guidance for COVID-19 Resurgence

The United States and Canada are experiencing a resurgence in COVID-19 positive tests and hospitalizations. With this resurgence, many state and/or governmental authorities may consider a second round of business closing restrictions.

The AAO recognizes the extreme burden these restrictions have on members' practices and patients. To minimize disruption, the AAO has started a COVID-19 resource webpage and a COVID-19 Task Force.

AAO Resources for COVID-19: Additionally, a recent AJO-DO article concerning aerosol-generating procedures can be found here. Additional COVID-19 tools can be found in the online resource center. You can view the ADA statement on the continuation of dental care during the pandemic here.

An important reminder is that active orthodontic treatment is considered emergent care in many state and local jurisdictions - if not providing orthodontic care would result in harm to the patient.
AAO is offering high-quality online continuing education through two new subscription options.

2020-2021 AAO Membership
Why should you renew your AAO membership?

COVID-19 Support
The AAO’s COVID-19 Task Force – comprised of practicing orthodontists, legal counsel and experts in the areas of infectious diseases, infection control and office design – is focused on educating members on best practices while continually working with federal and state agencies to ensure orthodontic practices are represented. In addition, the online COVID-19 Resource Center continues to be updated regularly with important updates and the latest resources.

Legal Services

At some point in every orthodontist’s career, there will come the need for legal services or counsel. While the AAO does not legally represent individual members or offer official legal advice, it does provide guidance to members on issues affecting their practices and patients. Other resources, such as answers to common legal questions, sample agreements and legal seminars, are also available.

Practice Resources
Maintaining and growing an orthodontic practice is an ongoing challenge that affects every orthodontist in one way or another. Every AAO member has access to valuable patient education and marketing materials and can count on a comprehensive array of practice forms and releases that make your job easier.
