Chatham County Schools are closed for a limited time due to COVID-19. Pittsboro Youth Theater and Sweet Bee Caffe will cease in-person activities for at least the next two weeks.

For those currently in PYT shows, we hope to start virtual rehearsals by Thursday and will be contacting parents via email.

Please read the note below for our full list of updates.

Dear Center for the Arts Friends and Family,

We always strive to provide a welcoming and safe environment at Pittsboro Youth Theater (PYT) and all of our family of arts organizations at the Center for the Arts, Pittsboro. With the current situation regarding COVID-19, we are taking additional steps to keep our facility clean and safe to help protect our patrons, volunteers, students, and staff.

For your safety, we are taking the following precautions:

"Columbinus" performances by the Social Justice Theater of the Carolinas scheduled for March 22nd have been canceled. Those who have purchased tickets will be offered a refund or the opportunity to donate their purchase.

PYT's Spring Break camp is also canceled and we will be contacting those who have signed up.

Pittsboro Youth Theater's next scheduled performance is "Godspell Jr." scheduled for April 11th and subsequent weekends. Tickets for this performance are not currently on sale. Rehearsals for this and all PYT plays are continuing normally. We will evaluate "Godspell" performances in the near future.

We have received special permission from the publisher of "Godspell, Jr." to videotape the performance(s), if we do not perform the play before a live audience. Performances of other Spring 2020 plays will be confirmed on our website well before originally scheduled performance dates.

Summer camps are happening as scheduled.

Music lessons will continue at the discretion of individual instructors. Contact your instructor or CFTA for music lesson updates.

Chatham County Schools are closed for a limited time due to COVID-19. PYT and Sweet Bee Caffe will cease group, in-person activities for the same duration (at least the next two weeks).

If the Chatham County School District or other governmental restrictions change our method of operation, we have fluid contingency plans that include video conferencing of rehearsals, individual online lessons from Ms. Tammy and other teachers, pushing back performance dates and/or making videos of performances with no live audience. The kids have worked very hard and one way or another, plays will be performed and seen.

In the Meantime...
We encourage all members of our community to:

Small businesses and performing arts organizations are projected to be hit hard by the forthcoming economic changes, social distancing and governmental edicts relating to gatherings. We encourage our patrons to keep this in mind as they make decisions about how, where and when to support the arts. The family of arts organizations at the Center for the Arts, Pittsboro will do our best to adapt and economize. This is so we can continue to provide wonderful cultural arts services to area children and adults over the long term.

If you would ordinarily support us in ways that new circumstances might change, please consider donating the value of un-enjoyed services to continue our financial solvency and increase the likelihood that we are here when circumstances approve.

Thank you,

Tammy Matthews and Craig Witter, Owners and Founders
