Dynamic and Experienced Executive Director
The Biodynamic Demeter Alliance, a newly formed organization focused on biodynamic agriculture and food systems in the United States, is the result of a thoughtful unification and expansion process involving the two strongest and most visible organizations within the movement: the Biodynamic Association and Demeter USA.
The Alliance seeks an Executive Director to lead the unified organization, an exciting opportunity to join a long-standing movement of dedicated stakeholders across the US and the world, while working to build and scale a dynamic and nascent organization with the potential for high impact within the most pressing issues of our time, such as mitigating the effects of climate change and championing social justice.
The ideal candidate is a confident, experienced leader who drives progress through a collaborative and inclusive style. The Executive Director brings an entrepreneurial and holistic mindset, leading from a future-oriented perspective to transform and build systems to achieve a vision. A seasoned non-profit manager and leader, the ED brings the broad skillset required for an organization experiencing rebirth: financial management, people management, board development, vision and strategic planning and execution, and an external orientation to grow the Alliance’s member, partner, and donor network.
The Alliance’s new ED is expected to bring experience within one or more of the following: agriculture (with a strong preference for biodynamic/regenerative/organic); food systems; health & wellness products / nutrition; land trust/conservation; certification; trade association.

The Biodynamic Association Certification (UK)
is seeking a
Demeter and Organic Certification Manager
The Biodynamic Association is unique among UK accredited organic certification bodies in that we certify both biodynamic farming and food to Demeter standards, and organic farming and food to organic standards. We pride ourselves on being a small team which is committed to building personal, long-lasting relationships with our licensees, whilst providing a professional and responsive certification service.
We are now looking for a bright, energetic, and ambitious person, who shares our passion for biodynamic and organic food and farming to manage our certification team as we move forward and grow the business post-Brexit. Our successful candidate will relish the detail of certification, have great attention for quality management and the ability to ensure that the organic and biodynamic principles that inspire our licensees inform all aspects of certification.
Our ideal candidate will have the following:
- Right to work in the UK and be able to converse fluently in English
- Practical knowledge of biodynamic/organic food or farming
- Understanding of the principles of biodynamic and organic agriculture
- Skills in quality assurance, small team management, communication and leadership
- A degree or similar qualification in a relevant field
- IT skills (Microsoft Office at a minimum, database and website management are desirable)
- A sense of humour!
The job entails:
- Overseeing the day-to-day certification of Demeter and organic licensees
- Liaising with and reporting to the Certification Board
- Managing the budget, keeping oversight of the finances
- Maintaining UKAS (UK Accreditation Service) accreditation to ISO 17065/2012 as an organic certification body
- Developing quality management systems
- Coordinating the development of standards
- Collaborating with other organic and biodynamic organisations (Biodynamic Association, UK Organic Certifiers Group, UK Certification Bodies Technical Working Group, Demeter International, IFOAM UK, Irish Organic Association)
- Maintaining good, responsive working relationships with DEFRA
- Acting as a spokesperson for biodynamic and organic agriculture and certification
As this is a position that actively works with several different areas of regulation, it is expected that the Certification Manager will possess or develop a thorough understanding of relevant UK, EU and International regulations and standards (ISO 17065/2012, EU and UK Organic Regulations 834/2007, 889/2008, 2018/848, Demeter International Standards and Quality Manual).
This is a full-time position based in our office in Stroud. The Certification Manager must be willing to travel to attend organic and Demeter meetings in the UK and Europe.
Salary: £29 - £32k depending on experience (a pension scheme is also available)

The Biodynamic Association (UK)
is seeking a
Communication Officer
The Biodynamic Association (BDA) is seeking a hands-on person with a strong mix of Communications and IT skills to be responsible for the day-to-day communications and managing parts of our business functions.
The preferred candidate will have an interest in biodynamic and organic food and farming, great interpersonal skills, understanding of and expertise in social media, good IT skills and abilities to understand and promote ideas and business activities. Interested in making a difference and hard work.
The Communications officer will deliver the strategy of communications, marketing and promotion for the Biodynamic Association, its activities and its licensees, ensuring the BDA successfully delivers on it objectives as expressed in its charitable objects and strategy through a variety of media, events and activities
This person will work closely with each activity within the BDA. 30 hours a week on an employed basis (0.8FTE), days and times are negotiable, based in the Stroud office.
