CENSUS LETTERS BEGIN ARRIVING  MARCH 12, 2020
  • No forms will be mailed.  Instead, you will get a computer code to enter.  Save your code and do not share it.  You must have it to complete the census on line.
  • Every resident and organization has a direct stake in the Census:
    • The Census numbers will generate impacts for 10 years:
    • Billions of federal dollars will be distributed for education, health care, senior citizen services, emergency planning, roads, etc. In Florida, more than $2,500 per person PER YEAR will be allocated, OR NOT, when the results are factored into Census-derived, federal funding formulas. The Palm Beach Post reported that our County lost $1.5 BILLION because of an undercount in 2010.
    • Incalculable amounts of private investments and jobs will follow the Census numbers.
    • Every legislative district at all levels of government will be reshaped and thus determine who people will vote for.
  • Undercount a big concern.  Remind your family, friends, neighbors and acquaintances to complete the census.  It matters.

IMMIGRATION COMMITTEE NEWS
The Immigration Committee closed 2019 with a wonderful “Cool Topic” event at the Vista Center. The panel featured Cheryl Little from Americans for Immigrant Justice and Maria Rodriguez from Florida Immigrant Coalition, two of the most prominent organizations fighting for immigration justice in Florida, and Dr. Miriam Potocky from Florida International University’s School of Social Work, who specializes on refugee resettlement. The panelists highlighted the many benefits that immigration brought to our state, while also calling attention to the administrative changes that have enhanced the vulnerability of immigrants and our communities. The event was live streamed.  To watch the full video, please visit https://www.facebook.com/LWVPBC/videos/983844045325746/
