ATPC Continues State Expansion Strategy with Ohio Meetings

The ATPC continued its state outreach expansion efforts with a visit to Columbus, Ohio on November 12th and 13th. FIS/Worldpay (led by Andrew Ciafardini and Jonathan Genovese) drove trip planning with support from their lobbying firm of BakerHostetler (Lori A. Herf). This team and H. West Richards, Jay Morgan, and Patrick Greer met with more than 20 Ohio state legislators, including both House and Senate leadership. The meetings covered a wide range of topics important to the State of Ohio including cybersecurity, fraud, financial inclusion, and casino gaming. Ohio is the home to a number of payment processors and key issuing banks.

"Why?"
  • Meetings targeted State and House leadership and key Cincinnati legislators, where Worldpay is headquartered.
  • Meeting discussions covered five main topics:
  1. Educating state leadership about the payments processing industry and its role in the broader Fintech industry and their collective prominence in Ohio
  2. Sharing the importance of cyber resiliency efforts for the U.S. payments grid now formally recognized as critical infrastructure by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security
  3. Providing perspective on Financial Inclusion in the growing digital economy and pointed out the important role that state & local government would need to play
  4. Suggesting that ATPC was a resource to the Ohio State legislature on payment industry related issues
  5. Educating the legislators on the FIS acquisition of Worldpay and some of the more positive impacts for the industry and the state, establishing the ATPC as an integral payments-related subject matter expert
