Constituent Meetings

I had a couple of great meetings with two groups of constituents this week at the capitol. I first met with Jeremy Saunders, Darlington, Dick Powell, Spring Green and Paul Knower, Richland Center.

They represent the Wisconsin Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association. During the meeting we went over their legislative priorities as well as general concerns they are seeing at their stores.
I also met with ABATE Green County members to discuss their concerns and legislative priorities as well as current issues within the motorcycle community.

Motorcycle riding is a large part of the tourism industry in Wisconsin, the state has a large number motorcycle riding enthusiasts, that is why it is so important that we continue to learn more about ways we can support this sector of our tourism industry.

Pictured above in the photo on the right are Steve Panten, Michelle Nusbaum, Jessica Brennan, Gary Sutherland and Dave Brownson.

Thank you all for taking the time to meet with me in Madison, I appreciated the insight you were able to provide me!
Committee Hearings
It was a very busy week at the Capitol with multiple session days as well as committee hearings. I met in several committees for executive session to recommend floor passage of bills.

The Assembly Committee on Agriculture met to vote on a recommendation of passage on Assembly Bill 948.

You may recall from last week's e-update that the bill alleviates the stress of succession planning and allows beneficiaries an expedited process to transfer farm equipment so that family farms may continue operating without the added concern of probate.

The Assembly Committee on Criminal Justice and Public Safety also met twice this week for executive sessions.

The committee voted to recommend passage of 5 bills, including Assembly Bill 960. This bill provides additional protections for all healthcare providers and staff members, in the wake of a significant rise in violence in healthcare settings.

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that violence-related healthcare injuries have increased by 63% from 2011 to 2018. This bill will ensure that our healthcare workers receive the protection they deserve.

Assembly Honors Governor Tommy Thompson
This week, the Assembly unanimously passed Assembly Resolution 27 (AR 27)  honoring Governor Tommy Thompson as he steps down from his role as the interim UW System President.

Members on both sides of the aisle gave floor speeches thanking Governor Thompson for his tireless efforts guiding our UW schools through the pandemic. His leadership at the System ensured that our schools remained safely open, while maintaining a commitment to academic excellence.
In addition to being honored on the Assembly floor, Speaker Vos announced that the Assembly Parlor, located in the back of the chamber, would be renamed in honor of Governor Thompson.

I was incredibly proud to honor the Governor for his years of dedicated service to our state. Tommy has made it clear how much he loves Wisconsin, and I am convinced that he is not finished and will continue to serve our state for years to come!
Tax Assistance Information
With the onset of tax filing season, the Wisconsin Department of Revenue (DOR) has announced they have added several resources to their website to assist with tax filing.

All forms and instructions can be found on DOR website and can be downloaded and printed as needed.

• Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program resources are available for those who require assistance or prefer to file using paper forms. Information and site locations can be found here.

• Wisconsin e-file, it's free, secure, and accurate. Each year, more Wisconsin taxpayers file their income tax returns and receive their refunds more quickly using our e-file application called Wisconsin e-file. Wisconsin e-file is available on the DOR website.
