Tips to help you enjoy a chilled-out winter
Whether you're working harder than ever or rattling around the house feeling a little lost, I've put together some ideas for looking after your mental wellbeing this Winter.
  • Prioritise your mental health by taking time to do things that make you feel good.  Far from being selfish, putting yourself first means that you'll be much nicer to be around and have more energy to look after others.  For me this is a long soak in the bath, a guided meditation to start or end my day, reading a book, staying hydrated and getting outdoors for exercise - even a quick walk or run in the pouring rain when I really don't feel like it always makes my day a better one.
  • If you can't get out, make an effort to keep in touch with friends and family via video call, telephone or messages.  It's easy to forget that we are naturally social creatures and it's important to remember we're not alone.  You'll also be lifting their day by making contact.
  • Think of your mind as you would a good friend, give them a name and allocate him or her some time every day by writing down what you'll do to make them happy or less overwhelmed.
  • Give yourself a break - don't beat yourself up if you haven't managed to get done what you wanted to.
  • Start your day as you'd like it to end.  A morning routine where you take time to check into yourself first, i.e. through meditation, giving gratitude or just spending a few minutes focusing on your breath has been scientifically proven to result in a much more positive day, whereas watching, listening to or reading negative news results in a much more negative mood up to 8 hours later!  Definitely worth making a couple of changes to reap the rewards later on.
  • If you don't already have one, a daily planner is a great place to write down these commitments to your mental health and help you stick to them.

Still here to help you

Unfortunately, due to the currently high levels of Covid I feel it is sensible to pause in-person treatments until it is safer for us all.
My booking system is therefore open for Distance Reiki treatments and online training only, and all other treatments are available for booking for dates from mid-February onwards. Fingers crossed I'll be able to see you all again safely then.

How To Prepare for Your Distant Reiki Healing

My tips for making the most of your distant Reiki healing

It’s hard for our practical brains to process, but we don’t need to be physically in the same place at the same time for a Reiki healing, as Reiki is a universal energy that surrounds us all.

At the start of your session, I will set the intention that the Reiki energy is sent to you wherever you are.  There’s no need for you to actually do anything, once you have booked your session and given me permission to work with your energy in this way.
I find from personal experience however that it’s extra beneficial and enjoyable to try some of the following ideas to really soak up those healing waves.  Here’s what I suggest, see what appeals to you.

Treat this time like a meditation, or your yoga practice, or enjoy a warm bubble bath. Create a peaceful environment, whether that is going outside at work and finding a park bench in the sun, or sitting under a tree for 20 minutes.
If you’re at home, sit in your favourite meditation space, a beautiful spot in your garden, or lie on your bed if you feel like a rest. Make the space comfortable with cushions and a blanket if needed, use crystals, candles, essential oils or incense to create a calm atmosphere.
Devote this short time just to you.
Sit or lie comfortably, and make sure you won’t be too cold. Close your eyes and take several deep, slow breaths to relax. Tell your chatty mind that it is not needed right now. No-one needs you right now, you have no-where else to be, just here.
Bring your focus to the sounds around you, if thoughts or questions or ideas come into your mind, just let them pop in and out without latching onto them. If you feel your attention wander, just return to following your breath in and out.
State your intention to receive the healing energy being sent your way.

That is all you need to do. Just trust that whatever you need is coming to you.
Go back to your breath - a simple way to stay focused on the moment is to slowly count your breaths, 1 on the in breath, 2 on the out breath. Start again. And again. And so on. Keep it really simple.
Just relax in this space for the time you have booked, or for as long as you feel comfortable, if you fall asleep that's fine – unless you’re in the bath of course!
When you feel ready take 3 really deep, really slow, really big breaths to tell your body it’s time to come back to the here and now.

Avoid jumping up and rushing back into your day. Try to imagine a protective bubble around you, keeping you feeling relaxed.
Take a moment to write down any thoughts that popped up during your time - often the most golden ideas come to you in these quiet moments.
Go about your day, and take note of anything that comes up; you might think of a particular situation or person, something that’s been bothering you that you are ready to address, or you might have some ideas and inspiration drop in.
