Whats Been Going On In May

Welcome to the May edition of the Canadian Shooting Federation Newsletter! Even though school is out, our clubs have been busy. Carleton had a "back to summer school" event (top), U of C had a Trapshooting event (left) and Mount Royal had an indoor shoot. All were packed with students and ran smoothly according to our National Clubs Director, Delano Civitarese.

In other news, Alberta Outdoorsmen featured the Lethbridge College fellers in their April issue. If you are down in Lethbridge this weekend then catch them at a booth in the Lethbridge Sportfest!

On the CUSF side we have a couple of exciting programs coming down the pipe. From merchandise to scholarships to our Womens Program the gears are turning and the puzzle is coming together. We are up to 20 volunteers and will be working hard over the summer to create as many opportunities for our clubs as possible. Stay tuned!

Red Deer Gun Show

We headed out to Red Deer to build some local relationships and try to get a team started! There was a ton of great people that we talked to, overall it was a huge success. With another giveaway in the bag, we are happy to congratulate Jim Bartholow, our latest winner. Additionally we would like to thank Bob Blackmore for having us out to his range for some Sporting Clays! It was great to discuss the future of shotgun sports with him and Team Canada Sporting Clays competitor, Aric Alexander.

Smallbore Rifle Competition

Congrats to U of S for winning the Team competition! Danton Hunchak won the Iron Sight, Rychel Smith took the trophy in the Any Sight and Samuel Eaton / Alyssa Chow took the pairs. Link to the full results here.

We are excited to bring on International Fullbore Competitor Emma McGinnis into the CUSF family! She will be our new Rifle Program Coordinator, and will be working hard with the DCRA to overhaul and improve our rifle program!

Partnership Highlights

This month we had two new sponsorships that we are excited to announce! The first is with Windscribe, a Canadian internet privacy company. They have provided us, and our clubs, unlimited web and email hosting free of cost Windscribe will also provide privacy and anonymity services for all of of our supporters at a heavily discounted rate. Use our special promo code CUSFDEAL to get over 50% off of their pro package.

Secondly, J & L Supply has sponsored us as they see the value in educating young people with respect to firearms. They are a well established leader in the oil patch, being a family run business for the last 45 years. Check em out for all your drill bit needs!

Club Spotlight: Carleton University Firearms Association

The University of Calgary Firearms Association (UCFA) is currently entering its seventh consecutive year of operation. Founded in 2013 by a group of local sportsmen attending university, it has steadily grown to be one of the largest active clubs at the University of Calgary. The organization started with a simple goal in mind: to provide university students with an opportunity to get informed on safe firearms operation with fellow students.
The club currently offers a variety of indoor and outdoor shooting events. Between indoor shoots at the Calgary Shooting Centre and trap shoots at the Calgary Firearms Centre, there is never a shortage of club events during the regular school year (unless exams get the better of us!). In addition, volunteer opportunities through partner organizations such as Delta Waterfowl and Safari Club International are provided to further introduce members to all aspects of the sporting community.

UCFA is currently firing on all cylinders with a young new slate of executives that wish to continue the clubs legacy on campus and continue the trend of growth the club has experienced year by year. We are ecstatic to expand our horizons to the national stage by working with CUSF to share our experience with those looking to start their own university firearms associations, in addition to getting our community more involved with competitive shooting.
