Nuisance Ordinance

I am pleased to see the comments from our residents and borough members on the proposed Nuisance ordinance.  Involvement by the community is always encouraged and appreciated.

Your comments will be integrated into an overall summary to the Borough Council so the Borough will have the opportunity to evaluate the gist of the community’s inputs regarding the proposed ordinance.  A formal public hearing will be held on May 12th, and a 'final' up-to-date DRAFT will be forwarded by e-News and advertised in the Daily American on April 19th and 26th.

The ordinance was crafted to accommodate a community that enjoys the peace of Indian Lake as well as the fun and recreational activities.  It is not the intent of the Borough or Planning Commission to enact changes that will disrupt any residents’ expectations of their Indian Lake experience.  Contained in the responses are two critical divergent ideas – those who seek respite while at the Lake and those who enjoy entertaining with friends and family or choose to host events.  To that end, the Nuisance ordinance was drafted to allow both competing interests to be met amicably.  In the end is comes down to respect for both opinions that we would expect any neighbor to extend.

From comments received thus far, we note that some are focusing on the extremes. There are those who want total peace and quiet, and those who believe the intent is to completely shut down the ability to have a party.   The proposed ordinance is really intended to provide standards for a community that has multiple and diverse interests.  We ask that all residents remain respectful of their neighbors and their community. No one I am sure will call the police for normal celebrations. Nor do we expect festivities to continue late into the night without proper considerations for their neighbors.  The Ordinance provides our police the ability to address unruly behavior that has gone to an extreme.

The members of the Borough Council, Service Corporation and Planning Commission volunteer their time to allow Indian Lake to thrive now and in the future as a cohesive community.  It is the intent of every member to ensure the community grows with the support and understanding of the residents.  These members dedicate a large amount of personal time and to ensure our Lake is safe, secure and support the well-being of the entire Community.  Your opinions matter and we want to be sure we represent everyone in our creation of ordinances.  Continue to be involved but let’s remain focused on a realistic and compatible outcome.   Thank you

To that end- I would like to make a plug to those permanent residents at Indian Lake who would like to be more involved in the community to join the Planning Commission.  We will have at least one opening in the near future and welcome participation.
