Parks & Recreation

An update from the Parks & Recreation Committee:

Building a better community starts with you, our residents, and so we, the Borough of Indian Lake invite you to volunteer and engage in building a community organization. We are asking for you to express your interests, values and ideas for community events and activities.

At the conclusion of 2021, the Borough Council recommended activating the Parks and Recreation Committee.  Pamela Tadken was selected to Chair the Committee. A call for volunteers resulted in forming a group of residents eager to revitalize the community spirit at Indian Lake.

The new Parks and Rec committee is focused on developing activities and facilities that will support the interests of our residents.  Our goal is to create venues and events for our neighbors available for all ages and year-round.

Recently, the Committee members toured various areas around the lake to identify areas that could support an athletic facility and community activities, including meeting with Jason and Clay, owners of the Lodge.

The committee would like to kick off with an Open house. To do this right we need input from the community on what you would like to see as recreational activities at the lake.   We are also encouraging residents to consider chairing or starting a club.

Some suggestions for various clubs or interests are:

  • Bridge Club
  • Card Game Night
  • Gardening or Beautification Club
  • Game Night-
    • Movie Night
  • Bocce Ball Night
  • Corn Hole Tournament

We hope to also host events through the year with possibly food trucks, or BBQ’s for informal meet and greet gatherings.

More details on the Open House will be forthcoming so stay tuned.

The Parks and Recreation Committee is proposing a three phased plan to accommodate community interest at a minimal cost to the residents.

  • Phase 1:  Establish Community events and activities utilizing the Peninsula Clubhouse
  • Phase 2:  Establish an athletic facility that would benefit youth and adults
    • We reviewed a couple park areas- we are seeking an area for Pickleball and Basketball court.
    • Beach/or Grass Volleyball court
    • Community garden, with plenty of space and water to offer a community garden to the residents.
  • Phase 3:  Long term improvements
    • Seek vendors to lease space from the Lodge to support a gym at the Lodge.
    • Partner with the Lodge to cover the pool with flooring, allowing for indoor winter sports activities, and for the Lodge to offer a second venue space.
To allow our initiatives to be successful, we need community input on what you would like to see offered at Indian Lake.  Please send your ideas to  Pam@indianlakepa.us or to Recreation@indianlakepa.us

We are here to make this the community you want and to keep Indian Lake the best Secret in Pennsylvania.

Thank you and look forward to your comments and suggestions.
