Improving the stability of perovskite semiconductor nanocrystals 
While lead halide perovskites can be used in television displays and smart phones, degradation of perovskites by water and light hinders their commercial applications. Recent paper by Dr Angshuman Nag and team proposes a way out. Read more in this article on IISER Pune newsroll .
Piecing together vitamin B-12
Vitamin B-12 is a large molecule synthesised by certain bacteria and archaea. The synthesis involves enzymes acting in a substrate- and region-specific manner. While this was known, the basis for specificity had eluded researchers for years. Work from Dr Amrita Hazra's group offers a missing piece of this puzzle. More  
Thermal fluctuations in quantum heat flow
Heisenberg's Uncertainty Relation provides a lower bound for observables like position and momentum to be measured simultaneously. Can one think of such a bound for thermal fluctuations in quantum heat flow? Dr Bijay Agarwalla, Prof. T. S. Mahesh, and team explore in this Physical Review Research paper.


COVID-19 Testing Centre
Run with the help of volunteers, the COVID-19 testing centre has now tested over 7500 samples arriving from hospitals in Pune. With volunteers from SPPU having joined the effort, the centre is now able to test upto 250 samples daily. Read in this blog post on Nature India's Indigenus about the workflow at the Centre. More

The community service volunteer team from the campus, formed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, has organised donation drives and a daily food-supplement programme for children to help the migrant workers residing in the campus.
COVID-19 Efforts: Contributors  
ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company Limited has pledged to sponsor the purchase of a high-throughput 96-well RT-PCR machine. This timely support will help us in optimizing the operations of the COVID-19 testing centre on the IISER Pune campus.

Support for the iGEM 2020 team
Delta Faucet Co. India Pvt Ltd and Scivic Engineering I. Pvt Ltd will support IISER Pune students at the 2020 Edition of International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) Competition hosted at the MIT, Boston, USA.
Support for research on drugs of carbohydrate and peptide origin
A donation from ZF Steering Gear (I) Ltd will support the development of a practical, scalable and catalytic route for the synthesis of life saving drugs of carbohydrate and peptide origin. This work will be carried out in the research groups of Prof. H.N. Gopi and Prof. Srinivas Hotha from the Chemistry department. 

IISER Pune-IDeaS Scholarship Award
In this third year of association, IDeaS will support tuition fee waivers for IISER Pune students for a semester during the academic year of 2020-21.


CoESME's first online workshop for teachers

Considering the lockdown, the CoESME team took their flagship workshop to the online mode. Organised in association with Wilson College, Mumbai, this interactive workshop saw participation from ~120 teachers. More
