Enrich your soul in the great goodness of God: The Father is your table, the Son is your food, and the Holy Spirit waits on you and then makes His dwelling in you.

Message from the Vocation Director

Dear Brothers,

Hello again from the Vocations Office! It was such a joy for us to welcome our nine brothers to the Chicago presbyterate on May 15th. And joy needs to be the gift we continue to pray for from the Holy Spirit as we serve this local Church as priests and shepherds. At the beginning of August, we have our Quo Vadis Days Camp for guys age 13-18, which is run by our seminarians. It is an excellent way for discerners to get a first look at what a vocation is. For this upcoming month, I invite you to write down the names of guys in your parish that you think could have a vocation and place it in your breviary. Pray for these men each day, that God would raise up a new generation of priests. As always, thank you for your example and for your prayers. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have a discerner that is ready to talk."

Sincerely in Christ,

Fr. Tim Monahan, Vocation Director
Seminarian Update

Dear Brothers:

As we enter these summer months, it is relief that we are able to do so with the knowledge that COVID and many of its safety protocols are being gradually loosened.  It will be a joy to welcome greater numbers of parishioners back to Mass soon and return “to normal” before too long.  For our seminarians, as well, this is good news, as they prepare to head out to their summer assignments.  Here are just a few ways of how our seminarians will continue their formation over these summer months:
  • Full time parish assignments for our transitional deacons
  • Six men to the Institute for Priestly Formation’s summer program in Omaha to focus on the spirituality of the diocesan priesthood
  • A team of seminarians collaborating with the Franciscans of the Eucharist at the Mission of Our Lady of the Angels in serving the poor and ongoing construction projects
  • Totus Tuus missionaries
  • Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) chaplains in our hospitals (Rush, Advocate Christ, Northwestern, Mt. Sinai)
  • Catholic Worker House
  • Working in other parish apostolates and summer maintenance jobs

As you can see, our men will be busy and well-engaged.  A group of seminarians will also be leading our Quo Vadis camp for High Schoolers which will take place August 1-4 in Wisconsin.  This is such a great opportunity for a few days of fun and faith formation together with our seminarians.  Please invite a few young men from your parish to join us.

God bless you in your ministry,
Fr. Tom
Ordination 2021

"Ever since I was 6 I wanted to be a priest. That desire became a reality today...I'm incredibly grateful and humbled...The laying on of hands. That's what got me. Having so many priests lay their hands on you, each different in their own way, and yet it was still Christ standing before me each time."

- Fr. Nathan Ford, SJC

"To be able to celebrate my first Mass in the church where I was baptized, in the place where I have encountered God's mercy time and time again, where I was confirmed, at the altar where I received my First Communion and at the same time the call to the priesthood 18 years ago when I was 8 years old, was one of the greatest blessings of my life. To be welcomed into the priesthood by a priest who has guided me to this moment was awesome. To finally be doing what I was made to do, to know I am supported by family, friends, parishioners, the lay faithful who I do not know personally, and the communion of saints, is just a wonderful and awe-filled experience. I feel a joy that is indescribable."

- Fr. Andy Matijevic

"When I first entered seminary, I knew I was where I was supposed to be. Now that I am a priest, I know that I am who I am supposed to be."

- Fr. Robert Ryan
