Gillett Library reading nook built with love

Aubree smiling while sitting in nook with booksAubree Couillard enjoys the medieval artwork in the Early Reading Room at Gillett Public Library. Thanks to a new donation from Gillett High School students, other readers can share her love of the era of lords and ladies with a new castle reading nook inspired by Aubree’s love of castles.

Creating the new reading space was a community effort. Meunier’s True Value in Gillett donated paint for the project.

Gillett Public Library Director Shannon Stoner approached Gillett Middle-High School Tech-Ed teacher Preston Zimmerman with the concept of making a reading nook for Couillard, who loves reading. Stoner approached Aubree’s mother, Laurie, and proposed the project to see the reading nook placed in her home. The Couillard family decided to keep the nook at the library for other kids to enjoy. “Shannon, this is overwhelming to me,” Laurie replied. “I hope others truly enjoy this special place at the library.”

Zimmerman’s class learned valuable technical skills while contributing to their community. Tech-Ed students spent the Fall semester planning and designing a medieval-themed nook for the Gillett Public Library. “The students did a phenomenal job, and we truly appreciate their time, effort, and energy,” said Stoner.

The Fund provides technology education resources, scholarships, and assistive technology devices to rural students. Their mission also includes supporting Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) extracurricular programs. The RTF supports rural communities that may have fewer opportunities for exposure to technology and funds projects in public schools and libraries.

Gillett Public Library Director Shannon Stoner said the library will utilize the funds to support the library’s “Full STEAM Ahead” program for Kindergarten through Fifth Grade.

The program takes place at the Gillett Public Library on the fourth Tuesday of every month in the Gillett Library Community Center from 4 to 5 p.m. For more information, please visit gilpubliclibrary.org or call 920-855-6224.
