MONDAY, JAN. 2, 2023

The new Congress is seated tomorrow. As of this writing, compulsive liar George Santos will be among the representatives. Santos, who flipped a Democratic seat in New York State, lied about his work experience, education, family history, finances, ethnic background, religion, and more.  Text the word RESIST to 50409 to use the free Resistbot service to send a message to your congress member/incoming congress member about Santos's lack of fitness for office.

• If you have a Republican representative, tell them to push for Santos's resignation.
• If you have a Democratic representative, call for Santos to be referred to the House Ethics Committee, a bipartisan panel of lawmakers, for a swift investigation.
• If you are a constituent of George Santos, email him and tell him to resign. If you're still on Twitter, you can tweet at him.
• If you're in New York State, join the fight to replace Jay Jacobs as the chair of the state Democratic party. We hold him responsible for the New York losses that flipped the House.

TUESDAY, JAN. 3
(1) TWO NOON ACTIONS IN NYC
Both are worthy!  One is downtown and one is midtown, so take your lunch break at the one closest to you. As with all in-person actions, you don't have to stay for the entire event. You can walk by and take a photo to share on social media; that helps too!

1. FIX NY DEMS RALLY, City Hall Steps, 12 PM ET - 1 PM ET.  This is regarding state party chair Jay Jacobs, who allowed four Democratic seats to flip red, with one of those going to George Santos. For more information and to RSVP, click here.
2. STOP FOX LIES, 48th & 6th, 12 PM ET - 1 PM ET.  Fox divides America with the lies they tell, but also with the news stories they ignore! If news can't be twisted to fit the right-wing narrative, Fox viewers just won't hear about it. Two years after the violent Jan. 6 coup attempt, they still don't know that Trump orchestrated the violence, knowing full well he lost the 2020 election.  RSVP on Facebook.

WRITE A LETTER TO THE EDITOR  - NATIONAL

The second anniversary of the attempt to violently overthrow American democracy is January 6 -- this Friday.  The leaders of the insurrection -- including Donald Trump and Supreme Court "Justice" Clarence Thomas's wife, Ginni Thomas -- have yet to face consequences. This is a good time to write a letter to the editor of your local news organization and name drop your member of Congress while you critique or applaud what that person has done to deliver justice. (Letters to the editor are still among the most-read sections of news publications, both online and in print.)

REPLACE JAY JACOBS MEETINGS - NEW YORK STATE

New York State Democrats lost the House for the whole country. We need new leadership, starting with the removal of state party chair Jay Jacobs. There are two Zoom meetings tonight for people who want to get involved.

FRIDAY, JAN. 6
SPEAK OUT ON THE INSURRECTION - NATIONAL
Today is the second anniversary of the attempt to violently overthrow American democracy and the leaders of the insurrection -- including Donald Trump and Supreme Court "Justice" Clarence Thomas's wife, Ginni Thomas -- have yet to face consequences. 

• NATIONAL OPTION: Email the Department of Justice to demand that the DOJ Special Counsel, Jack Smith, indict all of the coup plotters. This includes Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani, Mike Flynn, Steve Bannon, Roger Stone, Mark Meadows, John Eastman, Scott Perry, Alex Jones, and Jeffrey Clark, as well as Jenna Ellis, Ginni Thomas, Paul Gosar, Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, Tommy Tuberville, Ted Cruz, Jim Jordan, Louie Gomhert, and Ali Alexander, and others. To date, the DOJ has focused on the insurrectionists who entered the Capitol on January 6th. We must demand that the actual planners be charged with obstruction, conspiracy, and inciting an insurrection. No one should be above the law.

• NEW YORK CITY OPTION: Join the activists of Rise and Resist on the steps of the New York Public Library at 42nd and 5th for a protest calling for the indictment of the coup plotters. The organizers will provide banners and signs; just bring yourself.  As with all in-person actions, you don't have to stay for the entire event. You can walk by and take a photo to share on social media; that helps too!

• Read about clinic defense on Instagram before you go, and show up on time: 8 AM ET.
• If you are in NYC but unable to participate directly, I urge you to walk by, see the clinic defense with your own eyes, and amplify NYC for Abortion Rights on social media. People who believe NYC -- or any urban center -- will always be "safe" for abortion seekers NEED to see the on-the-ground harassment in real time even when abortion is still LEGAL in the state. You can also sign up to get news from NYC for Abortion Rights directly.

  • Follow and share NYC for Abortion Rights posts on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and TikTok.
  • Help expose your local fake clinics that pose as abortion clinics, but actually pressure people into keeping unwanted pregnancies. There are nearly 3,000 of these fake clinics, aka "crisis pregnancy centers," in the U.S. and fewer than 1,000 actual abortion clinics. You read that right.
