Message from Cara Dessert, The Center’s CEO

We’ve had a great response to our community-wide survey regarding the future of The San Diego LGBT Community Center – many thanks to all of you who have participated so far.

If you haven’t taken the survey yet, please do and share it! As you may know, the survey is an important part of The Center’s strategic planning process. To do the best future planning possible, we need to hear from as many people as we can to accurately capture the full diversity of ideas and hopes dreams our community has for the future of Our Center. Your voice in this planning process is crucial and will help The Center most effectively serve our community. To participate in The Center’s survey online today in either English or Spanish, use the links below.

Spanish: https://es.surveymonkey.com/r/WH8T6FL

As part of The Center’s plan to get input for our strategic plan in order to better serve our community, we’d like to specially invite you to an upcoming Town Hall for the Black LGBTQ Community at The Center on Thursday, August 22, 2019 from 6-7:30pm.

This event is aimed at centering Black LGBTQ voices within our community as an opportunity for The Center’s leadership and strategic planning committee to listen to the community and collect feedback on how we can better serve the Black LGBTQ community. This special evening is co-sponsored by The Gender Phluid Collective: PoC LGBTQ+Support, San Diego Black LGBTQ Coalition and Unity Fellowship Church Movement. While all are invited to attend, black LGBTQ voices and their families’ will be centered! We’re looking forward to listening to open and honest feedback from members of San Diego’s Black LGBTQ community. Please join -- dinner and refreshments will be provided.
Lastly, The Center is seeking nominations for the Benjamin F. Dillingham, III and Bridget Wilson LGBT Veterans Wall of Honor through August 9, 2019 (extended deadline).

Since 2011, our LGBT Veterans Wall of Honor recognizes LGB veterans who served under Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, and transgender veterans, all with ties to San Diego who have taken the oath to serve our country and have done so with distinction, acting as role models in advancing equality. It is a great opportunity to recognize and honor our servicemembers and their contributions to our community and country.

This year’s LGBT Veterans Wall of Honor Induction Ceremony will take place on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at 6:30pm at The Center. The LGBT Veterans Wall of Honor nomination form and additional information can be found here.

Thank you!
