Message from Cara Dessert, The Center’s CEO

I want to thank everyone who came out this past Saturday for our 12th annual “Pachanga de Frida,” which benefitted The Center’s Nicole Murray-Ramirez Latin@ Services program. It was another wonderful community celebration!

In addition, thank you to all those who contributed to make our annual Rainbow Prom for our LGBTQ youth such an amazing success.
We have two more weeks left in our fundraising campaign to support these types of events and resources for our youth. Next up will be our Back-to-School Rally to send our LGBTQ youth back to school with a foundation of community support.

We are making good progress toward our goal to raise $30,000 by the end of June. Can you support this effort for our youth by making a contribution today? Thank you so much for your support and generosity!

This coming Saturday, June 29, we will commemorate The Center’s Young Professionals Council Academy graduation with a special brunch at The Prado in Balboa Park. For more info, or to purchase tickets, click here or contact the YPC Liaisons at

In The Know With Ian
For decades, local Drag Queens have been fundraising for many local organizations, including The Center. You throw a fundraiser, and the next thing you know, you’re in Drag putting on a show! It’s what audiences come to see- the laughs, the talent, creativity, the art, and raising money for a good cause.  San Diego has been blessed with some pioneer Drag Queens who have paved the way and have made a difference in the lives of some many. Today, our community is fortunate to have so many of these Queens continue to make an impact for The Center.
Over the weekend I was proud to attend the new exhibit at the San Diego History Center, Legends of Drag. This new exhibit highlights our local Queens who break the gender barrier and shine just the way they want to be. All have given back to The Center, and some continue to be strong #CenterSupporters today. Con-DRAG-ulations Queens and thank you for representing San Diego.
