Ask Jacqueline and Gerard Castaing Claverie about the history of their family's time in Bordeaux, and they will shrug their shoulders and say "Its been a very long time." It just goes too far back to be sure how many generations their family has been on the land. No matter how long - one thing's for sure. Their oldest vines are at least 75 years old and only getting better with each vintage.
Located in a sunny spot overlooking Saint-Emilion - this vineyard is quietly producing a moderately priced red that is sadly starting to get the attention of the global heavy-weight wine critics. With all this attention will surely come increases in price - but for now its probably our best value for money proposition out of the right bank by a mile.
Chateau Haut-Veyrac, is like many other good producers in the region - really small. They eak out 6000 cases per year from 8 preciously tendered hectares. These successive generations have perfected the house style of mostly Merlot, then Cab Franc, and will be a cornerstone for the part of anybody's wine fridge labelled - good French stuff keep away from the Mother-In-Law...
To be able to land quality St Emilion from 2015 at less than $50, given what the new vintages are going to cost with reduced harvests and increased cost of production make this offer today historically good value.
