If sales were a race, Deep Woods would be way out front with the wind at its back and hurtling towards fame and fortune at the finish line. Over the past couple of years we have seen their wines go from one of a dozen or so new Australian wineries entering our digital shelves, to easily the top selling label from not just Margaret River or Australia, but very possibly our whole world of some 400 wines.

This is a big call to make - given just how much Crianza, Sangiovese and Chablis we sell these days. It’s even more of a call because currently the zeitgeist of wine consumption is heavily skewed towards Northern Hemisphere wines in general. The winning formula for Deep Woods is that their success is not just all about a fundamentally talented winemaking. They are smashing it at all price levels, grape types and consumer styles. This is good news for when I have to fund my next liver or defend another libel suit against an offended trailing spouse, tai-tai or soccer mom…

Picking a favourite out of the wolf pack is surely a little like choosing a favourite child, but from where my wine glass is sitting, its definitely about their chardonnay and cabernets.

Its seldom that I can say this with any particular confidence because not only do I swing the bat for both sales but customer service as well.  The sales part is fun but customer service some days can feel like leopard-crawling through a war-zone with "water-board me please" written on my back. When something goes wrong - I hear about it and wouldn't have it any other way, but when it comes to selling Deep Woods this is not a problem ...
