Just a few clicks south of St.-Émilion, Château Marjosse is the home estate of Pierre Lurton, the managing director of first growth Château Cheval Blanc in St.-Émilion and Château d'Yquem in Sauternes.  Together, with Cheval Blanc technical director Jean-Marc Domme, they make this possible contender for best value proposition out of the Right Bank, if not even further...

There is no doubt that Lurton and Domme are applying Grand Cru winemaking principles to the production of this wine. After all it would be a bad look for the pedigree of these curators to produce anything less. All that remains is for us to enjoy a wine that represents extraordinary value.

I believe that we are seeing a renaissance for Merlot in Bordeaux right now with increased ripening levels. It will almost certainly change as heat levels keep changing but we are sitting in the Goldilocks zone for this varietal from the Old World and we should all rejoice in it.

For me there is a sumptuous rollout of flavour and richness from very first phenolics to the very last drop. Its easy to love right now and will keep evolving for longer than the cost of continued storage exceeds the price of the bottle today...

Chateau Marjosse 2018 (WA 92, JS 92, AG 92)
(80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc with a splash of old Malbec.)

"... it opens with a compelling nose of baking spices, raspberry pie, warm red and black currants, rose hip tea and fragrant earth with a waft of wild sage..." LPB for WA 92

"Beautiful and precise fruit with blueberry and blackberry character. Medium to full body and firm, silky tannins..." James Suckling 92:

"The 2018 Château Marjosse is a juicy, lively, medium-bodied effort that has outstanding notes of ripe black cherries, violets, and a touch of minerality. It has good acidity, terrific balance, and should end up being an outstanding wine." Jeb Dunnick 92:
