Are you a night owl?
The first survey period for nightjars starts tonight!
Common Nighthawk by Jay McGowan/Macaulay Library
Nightjars are easiest to find in the week before and after a full moon. The May full moon is the 15th so the optimal survey window runs from May 8-22.

If you suspect nightjars breed near you,
consider conducting a survey on a moonlit night. If there are no existing routes near you, you can create your own route.

Easy steps to participate
  1. Select a route
  2. Review the 2022 Handbook
  3. Watch the training video
  4. Conduct the survey!
  5. Submit your data
Your efforts will help us monitor population changes in these rapidly declining species.
