Hey Friends,

How are you all feeling at this moment? Seriously, put down you phone or turn away from the computer, pause, take three deep breaths and really check in.

No attachment to whatever may be there, just acknowledgement....Ok, let’s continue.

When the pandemic started and life as we knew it came to an abrupt halt, a part of me found solace in the unexpected pause. While I am still taking advantage of this time to reconnect mentally and spiritually, another part of me misses teaching in spaces Zoom and IG just don’t quite measure up to. One such space is my youth classes with TDSB.

After what started as a challenging week, I was reminded of my young friends and a common theme we often discussed when one them were faced with a difficult or challenging situation.

Event + Response = Outcome

I had to remind myself that when faced with challenges not to let my mind trick me into believing that I am without power. Regardless of the situation our power lies in our ability to choose our response. Integrating mindfulness in this process, like the pause we took at the beginning of our conversation; helps to ensure that our response is one that is less reactionary and more inline with our inner values.

What about the outcome? Well, it may not always be one that we are happy with but at least we know that it was as a result of a conscious response and not an unconscious reaction.

As we pass the half way mark of 2020, I have been reflecting on all that has happened in this world. All that we have been called to witness and experience. As unnerving as it has been, I am awake to how grateful I am that I am here experiencing it. This is a moment that will write its own history for future generations to study and dissect.

What is yet to be seen is how we will choose to respond?

During my first teacher training I gained a deeper appreciation for nature and spending time outdoors. Especially during the warm summer days whose climate resembles that of my second home, Barbados. Which is why I am really excited about my new partnership with Reverie Farm, where I will be offering a weekly outdoor sunset yoga class on their beautiful property.
