We're streamlining our Communication Channels to get information to your more quickly.
Information about actions and new initiatives is sometimes late getting to you because it currently goes through up to 4 people to eventually reach Affinity Groups and/ or Working Groups.

Your best way of getting information hot off the press, is to join the new platforms and to get onto our Totnes & Area Telegram Broadcast Channel for urgent updates. This was used very well for the recent actions and information sharing and will be used more and more to keep people informed of recent developments on actions!

You can download the Telegram app from your app store if you don't have it then Click here to join the Totnes and Area Broadcast channel. This may not work on some browsers so if it doesn't try another browser.

If you're not planning to be on the new platforms or Telegram, but you want to receive information, please contact your AG or WG coordinator to work out they can make sure you're in the communication loop.

To get onto the new communication platforms - that's UK Forums for working groups and Mattermost for chat - contact our local tech champion, Jonathan,(jahenderson777@gmail.com) who can send you an invite and help you through the process. There are also workshops on Reset TV https://www.resettv.co.uk/ to help you to get started.

If you're not in a WG or AG, you can contact Helen (totnesandareaanchor@protonmail.com) and we
can arrange to have a chat about how to make sure you get the information you want.  PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE WAS A TYPO IN THIS ADDRESS IN A PREVIOUS NEWSLETTER - APOLOGIES FOR THAT - DO TRY AGAIN!

By the way, Reset TV now has a really good website which enables you to see exactly what's happening day by day – it's much more user friendly and well worth checking out for lots of talks and workshops. https://www.resettv.co.uk/

The new website is here and it's fantastic! Please check it out! https://xrta.org.uk/

Virtual attendance at big meet-ups in Grove school (whenever they recommence)

The Hosting Circle are aware that some people would prefer to continue to join meetings via Zoom, rather than attend in person.  Our tech team is working on this and plan to trial it at the first big meet-up so as to ensure we include as many rebels as possible.  For more info, email
 xrtotnesarea@gmail.com
Zoom Security for Big Meet Ups

We briefly had some uninvited and disruptive guests at a recent big meet up. To minimise the chances that this could happen again, we've changed the settings on our XR zoom account to ensure maximum security and also have a dedicated tech person for the meet ups - huge thanks to Barry!

Big meetups happen every 2 weeks on Tue, until Aug 18, 2020.  If you'd like to contribute something in a big meet up, please let the hosting team know in advance, preferably the Monday of the week preceding the big meet up because that's when we do our planning. TAAhosting@protonmail.com  Below are tentative ideas of what we may be focusing on in upcoming meet ups.

        Following Big Meetups -

Jul 7, 2020 06:30 PM - a focus on the regenerative side of XR

Jul 21, 2020 06:30 PM - a focus on Future Democracy and "Trust the People"

Imminent Actions

COVID TODAY-
CLIMATE TOMORROW-
ANOTHER WORLD IS POSSIBLE!
Join our protest on Thurs 25th June  12-1pm , Totnes .

We will be placing rows of children’s shoes in Totnes CIvic Square as a ghostly reminder to the government that despite all that’s going on, the future of younger generations worldwide need protecting more than ever before.

We are holding our government to account - the decisions made NOW will directly impact the the ability of humans and ecosystems to survive on this planet.
Our Govt. is considering giving billions to the most destructive industries . We can’t go back to an economy that chooses pollution , the destruction of precious wildlife habitats , and climate wrecking over health and life itself.
In these turbulent times , racial  justice is inextricably linked with climate justice . Black and Brown people are worst affected  by the climate and ecological crisis -in inner cities and the Global South.
We are demanding that all govts adopt a climate friendly recovery plan .
INFO
Join the socially distanced non violent procession carrying children’s shoes and placards leaving the car park behind the old co-op car park at noon(gather for briefing at 11.45am )

Children welcome if with an adult from their household .Children are encouraged to write what their hopes are on a message to be put inside the shoes .

We will deliver a letter to Conservative  party offices on the way to the civic square. If you wish , you can bring some children’s  shoes that you later pick up from the square at 1pm . All donated shoes will go to charity .

Please wear masks, (Some will be provided ) and use hand sanitiser/gloves if you are handling shoes that could carry the Covid virus

Or you can add your presence to the socially distanced silent witnesses in the Civic Square.

Can’t come ? Donate some outgrown children’s  shoes - for an XR collection point near you message us -  Bob Grose, Suzanne Dennis,  Lu Overy or Emma Hopkins. THANK YOU.

Join Telegram for up to the moment info and watch out for special email nearer the time.

We want to echo the moving picture of thousands of children's shoes in Trafalgar Square, reminding government and all of us that it is our children who need us to take action to build a better future, now. We need your support, and especially that of parents with school and college age children.

See this link for a fabulous video about the Trafalgar Square action https://www.facebook.com/XRebellionUK/videos/3226184107403548/?hc_ref=ARRltajIAjNuDmD9WJ5_8fSIjxODZDHDpQMJJFBwwoaCjkEh9hvMkmk4XQUucHUQW6w&fref=gs&dti=294577058060542&hc_location=group

ACTION CALL-OUT!
ANOTHER CRITICAL MASS CYCLE RIDE!
Friday 26th June at 5pm.

The day after our wonderful, creative action featuring children's shoes on Thursday 25th June, there will be another critical mass cycle ride in the theme "Reclaim the Streets". Please come join us!
Join us at Victoria Street car park at the bottom of St Katherine's Way on Friday 26th at 5pm.

This is a movement-of-movements action. XR and local cycling activists are coming together in pursuit of our common goal -- reclaiming the streets for cyclists and walkers for a greener, healthier and more sustainable world fit for our children and grandchildren.

This ride will not be XR-branded, in order to attract more non-XR cycling activists. By all means wear XR badges or t-shirts, but no flags or placards please.

For more information contact Nigel on drncoles56@gmail.com or Bob on 391175@protonmail.com.

See you there!

We've been putting together two small action planning teams, one for each action -- and we urgently need a coordinator for each. Please seriously consider taking on this role. There's plenty of support, and vast enthusiasm. For more info contact or email Bob Grose, Suzanne Dennis, Lu Overy or Emma Hopkins. THANK YOU."

Diversity

Disability Access to Online Meetings

The Diversity Working Group have proposed the following piece as part of our ongoing work into diversity and inclusion in Totnes and Area XR. Online meetings are a new area of expertise for many of us, and this piece is a work still in development so comes in blog form, with space at the end for anyone  to add further thoughts and suggestions.
The Diversity WG hopes in due course to produce a number of documents to assist us all in considering how to make our group as diverse and inclusive as possible.

The XR UK Legal Support team will provide fortnightly Know Your Rights training
Every Tuesdays from 6-8pm from now on.

(click here to sign up)
Know Your Rights Training provides essential information on your rights at protests, your rights when talking to the police, your rights when being searched, and your rights when being arrested. Recommended for all rebels, whether intending to get arrested or not.

Comms Hub Training and Mattermost Overview

Multiple Sessions a Week on Reset TV resettv.co.uk.  You can join for part of these sessions if you can't make the whole 2 hours.  They're run by Ned Evans who is really helpful and can point you in the direction of shorter videos as well once you're on Mattermost.

Are you frustrated with all the different apps, programs and platforms XR uses? XR is moving to Mattermost! One place to reach all rebels. Mattermost can be used instead of WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram and Zoom. The Comms Hub is the landing stage and contains Mattermost, XR UK Forums (for longer, more in-depth conversations) and XR UKCloud (for file storage and replaces Basecamp).  These sessions aim to give you an overview of how the Comms Hub and Mattermost work.  They'll be slow and steady, and will help everyone no matter your level of technological ability.

I found Ned's training really useful and I'm now able to help others get on to, and use, the UK Comms Hub, which offers improved security and uses renewable energy - especially important as we eventually move from Zoom to Mattermost for our meetings.
If you need any help then email Jonathan (jahenderson777@gmail.com) for more techie issues, or contact me (barry.cohen52@gmail.com) for simpler stuff.

Post Action Arrest Support – Where are we Now?

It seems a long time ago since the heady days of rebellion in April, June and October last year and the mass arrests that resulted.

Many rebels are still dealing with the consequences. Most of us were keenly aware and well-trained in the likely outcomes of being arrested and remain deeply committed to non-violent civil disobedience as an effective means of confronting ecocidal government behaviour.

It appears that the CPS has now finished charging October arrestees. Of those remaining charged rebels (we believe 13 locally) none currently have to appear in court in person, some are subject to ongoing postponements and depending on their plea of Guilty or Not-Guilty, all are being dealt with by post, video, telephone or proxy via a solicitor.

There are of course many ways people can support the Rebellion without engaging in acts of civil disobedience. When we return to the streets we all wish to be prepared. If you are considering non-violent direct action we recommend that you do the training for NVDA, Know Your Rights, RISECWP and XR DNA. These really help with making a careful personal decision about your level of involvement and can all be found here https://www.resettv.co.uk/

Arrest support information that is not available via the XR website can be found by contacting xr-arrestwelfare@protonmail.com or for legal info XR-legal@riseup.net
