NEW SHORT-ITEM SYMPTOM MONITORING TOOL AVAILABLE TO PATIENTS
Recently, Tennille Lewin (PhD Student) completed the development of the short-item symptom reporting tool
and will undertake a study to establish reliability and validation of the tool using data from the PROpatient trial.

The short item tool is now available to all patients in the intervention arm of the PROpatient trial.

PARTICIPATING SITES
The PROpatient trial is actively recruiting at six sites. We are finalising remote or on-site access at five sites. One site is pending governance approval

PROJECT UPDATES

Nurse Consultants: Lisa and Tina

The study team recently received some feedback from patients participating in the PROpatient trial! Let's see what they have to say:
Patient 1

"[The PROpatient nurse] has a way of reading between the lines, even through the survey, and I get a call just when I need her. Talking to her helps settle my mind and eases the anxiety I often don't know is there. Even though she must talk to a lot of people, she is always patient and I always feel better and 'normal' when we are finished... and I know I can call anytime! Awesome!"
. . .
Patient 2

"The PROpatient service is of great value to a person like me recovering from cancer surgery. After my monthly oncology appointment, I receive a follow up call from [the PROpatient nurse]. If I have any concerns on treatment or any other cancer-related issues there is always a helpful ear..."
Thank you to the study participants for your time and involvement in the PROpatient trial. The study participants significantly contribute to this study through their participation, and we appreciate their support in continually improving the care provided to patients with similar experiences.

Additionally, thank you to the hard-working specialist nurses on the PROpatient team, Lisa Brady and Tina Griffiths - your time and expertise is greatly appreciated!

PhD Students: Nadia and Tennille

Nadia Khan
As part of her PhD project exploring supportive care utilisation in UGI cancers, Nadia is currently analysing patterns of palliative care utilisation in pancreatic cancer using data from the Palliative Care Outcomes Collaboration. Linked data from the Centre for Victorian Data Linkage has also been obtained and preliminary analysis is expected to commence within the next month.

Nadia has recently completed an internship with Cancer Australia and has undertaken a review of clinical trials activity in pancreatic cancer to inform the development of the National Pancreatic Cancer Roadmap.
. . .
Tennille Lewin
Tennille is currently undertaking a research study to determine the feasibility and acceptability of the PROpatient centralised model of care coordination from the perspective of both health professionals (HPs) and patients. This is a mixed-methods study. Interviews with HPs and patients will be used to develop short surveys that had be administered to HPs' patients (who have had the intervention) at various time points throughout the trial. To date, interviews have been conducted with 15 HPs that provide care to patients with UGI cancer from PROpatient trial sites, including representation from a range of specialties (surgery, oncology, nursing, allied health, palliative care).

Recently, Tennille completed the development of the short-item symptom reporting tool and will undertake a study to establish reliability and validation of the tool using data from the PROpatient trial.
