__  Stories Retold Exhibition
The Indigenous Artists' Showcase may have just wrapped up last week but as an early Christmas present to you, our latest 'Stories Retold' exhibition will be opening to the public starting this Friday.

This show will consist of a number of artworks that have either toured in various galleries throughout the country, or have not had a chance on the spotlight due to COVID related restrictions.

Nevertheless, these works have returned home and we can't wait to share them all with you.

If that's not enough to draw your attention, our latest addition to the crew, Wellborn, will also be revealing 3 new exciting artworks in this exhibition!
This free exhibition will be open to the public from Friday, 3 December
__  Cherbourg Community Mural
Painted Friday 19th & Saturday 20th of November

With Kane Brunjes leading the project, Birrunga Wiradyuri and Stevie O'Chin lent their skills to paint a mural for the Cherbourg Community to enjoy for years to come.

Read below to find out more about the artwork design.

Running through the center of the mural is the Rainbow Serpent with the story of the three circles connecting throughout the piece.

The First Circle, the inner circle, is Self or Individual.

The Second, the middle circle, is Family, Relationships, and Community.

The Third, the outer and largest circle, is the World and Universe.

The importance is in moving across these three circles in cycles regularly as we need to focus on different parts of ourselves. Moving in a cycle, like the seasons, these three different areas of focus is where the balance is found.

The painted Boomerangs are stories shared by Students from the Silver Lining school and young People from Cherbourg - all connecting with the story of the Rainbow Serpent, and the three circles.

We acknowledge and thank Cr Fred Cobbo and Cr Leighton Costello for their permission to come into Community and produce this work.
We also acknowledge Phil Carlo who cooked up a feed for the young fellas on the Friday.
We acknowledge and thank the people of Cherbourg for their kind words for having us on Country.
We acknowledge and thank the young fellas who came in and cleared up the site for us so we could produce the work.

__   IITOQ

In early November 2021, the Hon. Minister Sterling Hinchcliffe (Queensland Minister for Tourism Innovation and Sport & Minister Assisting the Premier on Olympics and Paralympics Sport and Engagement), officially acknowledged and recognised the Independent Indigenous Tourism Operators of Queensland (IITOQ), stating:

"The establishment of Queensland’s first Indigenous tourism peak body is a significant milestone for the Indigenous tourism sector and indeed the wider tourism industry of Queensland."

This is indeed a significant milestone; a significant step forward in creating genuine opportunity for First Nations cultural tourism products to service the growing demands for engagement with our unique offerings in truly self determinate models of enterprise, on our own terms. It creates an Indigenous Tourism Economy that services and supports a range of subsidiary industries.

This is a major paradigm shift.

Our Board is set and our website is close to being finalised. We have the first of a number of corporate partnerships established such as with K&L Gates providing IITOQ ongoing pro bono legal support regarding matters of governance, directorship and compliance, as well as partnering with Gadens - represented by Senior Partner, Brad Marland, in a specialist Board position.

We will be launching our membership drive in the very near future.

__   Kane's Bronze Bees @ West Village

Kane Brunjes' 2019 Mural project with Sekisui House, West Village, has taken a large step forward with Kane’s bees along with the story of the works being cast into bronze and placed strategically by Kane, Stevie O’Chin and Birrunga on site within the West Village precinct.

These images show the works loosely placed during the installation consultation, as well as the plaque with the story of the works.

We thank Sekisui House and West Village for their ongoing support and engagement.

We look forward to the opening of the installed works.
