"Sentient II" by Bethany Tobin, part of the Soil and Seed Project, Summer 2022

The Soil and Seed Project: Ordinary Time, Summer 2022

The Soil and the Seed Project (created by Mennonites in the Shenandoah Valley, VA) nurtures faith through music, art, and Little Liturgies for daily and weekly use in the home. These resources help establish new rhythms of faith as together we turn towards Jesus, believing and celebrating the Good News of God's Love for the whole world.

The following prayer and pondering of theirs are based on Psalm 103 (at the bottom of this page) and Isaiah 58: 9-14, part of the lectionary readings for week 11.

GOD,
You care for the hurt, the poor, the sick
Pattern our lives after you
Teach us to be generous with the hungry
Help us to share our homes with the poor

Give us life in the dry and empty places
Make us like a spring of water
Restore our strength

In our giving, in our emptying
You guide us every step of the way
You fill us

May we be people
known as repairers of the cities
and restorers of communities
AMEN

To ponder:
What rhythms of faith do you have for each day or week?
Is there a certain part of your day or week where you need God to give you strength?
Try one new thing today to welcome God's sustaining love into your life.

Psalm 103
Selected and adapted from the Hebrew by Stephen Mitchell

Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and praise God, my inmost heart.
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and remember the Beloveds unchanging love;
who forgives you for your wrongdoing
and heals you of selfishness and fear...

The Lord is joy and compassion,
patience and unchanging love.
Higher than the heavens above us,
vaster than space, is God's love....

As tenderly as parents treat their children,
so the Lord has compassion on us all.
For God knows what we are made of;
remembering that we are dust.
Our lives are as brief as the grass;
we blossom like a flower in a field;
when a strong wind comes, it is rooted up
and disappears from its place.
But God's love is eternal,
and God's justice everlasting.
