Working on Grover's Algorithm from the quantum challenge! (Try to work on it before looking at the solutions!)
Advanced Track 6:30 - 7:50 p.m.
Working through selected problems and notes from Prof. Irani's course and QCQI by Nielsen and Chuang.
Summary of Week 7 Meeting
Andy went over how to create quantum registers, classical registers, and quantum circuits using qiskit. He also covered how to access various different backends and IBM's realtime quantum computers. His jupyter notebook can be found here.
After learning how to build our own quantum circuits, Tony went over how to implement various classical logic gates and a full adder using qiskit. The examples he used can be found here.
Then, Ahmad gave a talk on boson sampling and how you can use light to build a quantum system. His talk can be found here.
We learnt the basics of quantum gates, Deutsch-Jozsa algorithm and Shor's algorithm. We also implemented it with Cirq and Qiskit. Finally, we ran the code on IBM Q Experience, the free cloud quantum computer from IBM!
Also, we heard from Prof. Sandy Irani about her research and opinion on many interesting topics including the recent supremacy argument. Moreover, we heard from our grad members about their research from various background such as physics, CS, chemistry and music. We were fascinated by their expectation for quantum computing and quantum information.
Hi Anteaters! We are excited to have many new members! Thanks for everyone who came by our booth on Thursday. Whatever background you may have, as long as you find QC interesting, we look forward to your participation! Let's start this new year by studying and exploiting the wonderful quantum magic!
QC@UCI was founded during this past summer by passionate undergraduate and graduate students from various backgrounds. From the very beginning, we aim to connect people from different fields and encourage everyone to learn something new as the inherently interdisciplinary nature of quantum computing and quantum information suggests. Moreover, we hope to stimulate the research and general interest towards this topic at UCI.
But how? We have planned 3 kinds of activities
Paper discussion sessions to keep you informed with the latest advancement.
Presentations from students, professors and industry speakers to give you a taste of QC.
Projects will be led by experienced students. Find a project of your interest or invent your own!
Please join our Slack workspace for more information! Whatever background you may have, as long as you find QC interesting, we look forward to your participation!
