PUBLIC LECTURE BY ROSI BRAIDOTTI "THE CRITICAL POSTHUMANITIES" - APRIL 29
This lecture rests on the assumption that contemporary posthuman scholarship in the Humanities is a convergence phenomenon unfolding at the intersection between post-humanism on the one hand and post-anthropocentrism on the other. The former criticizes the idea of ‘Man’ as the allegedly universal standard-bearer for the human, whereas the latter objects to species hierarchy and human exceptionalism. Their convergence affects both the definition of the subject of knowledge and the modes of knowledge production of the academic Humanities. What are we to make of the sudden growth of new trans-disciplinary hubs that call themselves: the Environmental and Digital Humanities, the Medical, Neural and Bio-Humanities, and also the Public, Civic and Global Humanities and so on? The lecture offers both a genealogy of these Critical Posthumanities and a theoretical framework by which to assess them.

This event is organized by the Center for Culture and Technology at SDU (https://www.sdu.dk/en/cult-tech) in conjunction with the Danish Institute for Advanced Studies (https://danish-ias.dk/) and the research cluster, Drone Imaginaries and Communities.

CONFERENCE "POSTHUMAN MIMESIS", KU LEUVEN - MAY 20-22
The Institute of Philosophy at KU Leuven, Belgium, organizes an International conference, titled "Posthuman Mimesis" on May 20-22.

The ERC Project Homo Mimeticus: Theory and Criticism is pleased to announce an international online conference on the subject of “Posthuman Mimesis” hosted by the Institute of Philosophy at KU Leuven (Belgium). While the term “posthuman” covers a wide range of notions that account for the (bio-)technological modifications to the human body, consciousness and subjectivity, this conference focuses on the role imitation plays in the plastic transformations constitutive of the posthuman turn. Establishing a first bridge between major thinkers who accounted for “how we became posthuman” (Hayles) and a recent return of attention to behavioral imitation, this interdisciplinary conference proposes to look back to the ancient realization that humans are, for better and worse, mimetic creatures, in order to look ahead to protean transformations that transgress boundaries dividing mind from body, self from others, the human from the non-human and the non-living.
II SIMPÓSIO INTERNACIONAL SOBRE TRANSUMANISMO - MAY 26-28
The Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná (PUCPR), Brazil, organizes the II International Symposium on Transhumanism, May 26-28, promoted by the Hans Jonas Center Brazil and the Graduate Program in Philosophy of Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná, Curitiba, Brazil.

LECTURE ON PHILOSOPHICAL POSTHUMANISM BY FRANCESCA FERRANDO, CÁTEDRA ALFONSO REYES, MEXICO - MAY 28
The Cátedra Alfonso Reyes, at the Departamento de Estudios Humanísticos, Escuela de Humanidades y Educación, Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico, organizes a Lecture by Francesca Ferrando, titled "Philosophical Posthumanism", Chair: Prof. Rodrigo Esparza Parga. The previous lecture of the Cátedra Alfonso Reyes was by STS philosopher Bruno Latour.
INAUGURAL ONLINE SYMPOSIUM: POSTHUMANISM AND INDIA - JUNE 13
The Global Posthuman Network is delighted to support the "Posthumanism and India: Envisioning and Manifesting - an online symposium" (June 5-13, 2021) - inaugural event of the Indian Posthumanism Network.
NEW BOOK! STEFAN L. SORGNER'S ON TRANSHUMANISM
-We are very pleased to announce the release of On Transhumanism by Stefan L. Sorgner, edited by Penn State University Press.

Transhumanism is widely misunderstood, in part because the media have exaggerated current technologies and branded the movement as dangerous, leading many to believe that hybrid humans may soon walk among us and that immortality, achieved by means of mind-uploading, is imminent. In this essential and clarifying volume, Stefan Lorenz Sorgner debunks widespread myths about transhumanism and tackles the most pressing ethical issues in the debate over technologically assisted human enhancement.

On Transhumanism is a vital primer on the subject, written by a world-renowned expert. In this book, Sorgner presents an overview of the movement’s history, capably summarizing the twelve pillars of transhumanist discourse and explaining the great diversity of transhumanist responses to each individual topic. He highlights the urgent ethical challenges related to the latest technological developments, inventions, and innovations and compares the unique cultural standing of transhumanism to other cultural movements, placing it within the broader context of the Enlightenment, modernity, postmodernity, and the philosophical writings of Nietzsche.

Engagingly written and translated and featuring an introduction for North American readers, this comprehensive overview of the cultural and philosophical movement of transhumanism will be required reading for students of posthumanist philosophy and for general audiences interested in learning about the transhumanist movement.
NEW BOOK! CIANO AYDIN'S EXTIMATE TECHONOLOGY (Open Access)
We are please to announce that Ciano Aydin's new book, titled "Extimate Technology", has been published and that it can be downloaded (Open Access) here.

This book investigates how to shape ourselves in a world saturated with technologies that are deeply intruding in the very fabric of our selfhood. To answer this question we must move beyond the stubborn inside-outside dualism and recognize that what we consider our "inside" self is greatly shaped by our "outside" (technological) world. Inspired in particular by Nietzsche, Peirce and Lacan, this book shows how the longer-term values, goals and ideals that people encounter in their environment not only shape their identity but can also enable them to relate critically to their current state. In this respect Technological Sublimation Theory (TST) is introduced, which reinterprets technological enhancement in terms of technological sublimation.
NEW BOOK! BRUNELLA ALTOMARINI'S THE MAIDEN MACHINES
This book tells about a conversation among maiden machines – future robots or chatbots, called like that as a tribute or counterpoint to Marcel Duchamp machines célibataires – during a rescue journey. Their conversation concerns the question about their origins. As well as humans, also machines ignore from where they come and, from an indeterminate future time and space, they look into the archives collected in the data they exchange in their mutual interconnection. They will reconstruct their own genealogy, starting from their vision of the human species (or of their survivors, kept in gardens they have built for the extant creatures to be studied as in research labs) and will understand why they have women’s names and who gave those names to them.
So what is thought of now is already stored in the future mind and belongs to the machines’ pre-history. The maiden machines, arrived at their destination, will reveal to themselves the sense and the direction – a cybernetic teleology – of their existence.
This book is the third part of a trilogy, whose first part is Thinking Through Error (Lanham, Lexington Books, 2012) and the second is The Maiden Machine (New York, Edgewise, 2012).

NEW BOOK! ROBERTO MARCHESINI'S THE VIRUS PARADIGM
We are pleased to announce that Roberto Marchesini has published a new book, titled The Virus Paradigm: A Planetary Ecology of the Mind, edited by Cambridge University Press.

In recent years, the word 'virus' has lost its biological perimeter of reference to acquire a much broader – could say 'paradigmatic' – meaning. The term 'virus' can be seen as a key word or an explanatory model also for processes that go beyond the infectious sphere. Every event appears to have a viral character: from the way information is transmitted to the processes of cultural globalization, from the impact of human beings on the planet to the subversion of ecosystems, from pandemic risks to the demographic increase on the planet. This seems to be indeed the Age of the Virus. Its model can be applied to most of the phenomena that characterize the twenty-first. Its profile – its looming and invisible nature, its ability to use other people's resources to spread and to transform into a dangerous doppelganger – is perfect to represent the fears of the contemporary age.
