TCS Times

Nau mai, haere mai ngā whānau o te kura o Tahatai.  A very warm welcome to all our TCS students and their families.

Having been in and out of classrooms the past couple of weeks, I have been so impressed with both the quality of teaching and the learning going on. Across all year groups, there is a high level of commitment and positivity towards learning.  I know the teachers are very proud of their students and are looking forward to celebrating the progress with you at next week's Teacher, Parent/Caregiver and Student Conferences. Reporting on student achievement, and working in partnership with whānau, makes next week's learning conferences one of our more important calendar events. We are wanting every family to book a time to meet with their child's teacher, so if you have yet to do this, please see the booking details below in this newsletter. Both the students and teachers are currently working towards ensuring the conference will be both informative as well as an opportunity to celebrate progress and achievement.
Sickness has hit the school hard the past few weeks, and I would like to thank you for your vigilance in keeping your child home when feeling unwell. The winter bugs are in full swing so we are continuing to push the hygiene message, and ensuring cleaning procedures are thorough. If your child is sick or unwell, please inform the school before 9:00am by either texting 027 878 2462, phoning 07 5724600, or using the function on the School Stream app.
Student safety will always be our number one priority but this needs to be a shared responsibility. This means we all need to be modelling safe practices when students arrive and depart school each day. Sadly, we are seeing a return of some bad habits with cars parking along areas marked with yellow lines, speeding in front of the school, and blocking traffic flow. I would also like to remind you that road patrollers are there to ensure the safe crossing of the road. These student leaders feel disheartened seeing parents walk across the road between the main entrance and Grenada Street. It only takes one child to think this is okay and then cross unsafely.
C3 Construction is about to begin the first stage of the refurbishment of the leaky admin building. This work will be contained within the fenced-off area, but will mean that 6 car parks located directly in front of the building will be coned off. These will be used for the various tradies to come and go safely throughout the day.

A quick mention of our students involved in Running Club. The mahi is paying off as they regularly train during their own break times.  This enthusiastic group has had a positive influence on both our Year 5/6 Whānau. Students from these classes have been part of a virtual cross country challenge. The final trials will be held next week and the quickest times will be submitted as Tahatai representatives. Go Tahatai!

Term 2/3 Electives
Our Term 2 student electives started last week and will continue in Term 3.  Please see an outline of the electives on offer at Tahatai below.  There is no cost to attend any of our electives, just to come long with a positive attitude, willing to listen and learn.  Thanks to the teachers that put themselves forward to take an elective.
The Chess Club organised by Mrs Barton was a huge success on a wet Thursday this week.  What a great way to learn how to play chess or to get more game time for our more experienced players.
