TCS Times

Nau mai, haere mai ngā whānau o te kura o Tahatai.  A very warm welcome to all our TCS students and their families.

Things are certainly moving along nicely with the roll growth classroom building project. The Kids' Club is having access ramps, stairs and services reconnected, and the piles are being concreted in preparation for the modular classrooms. These are set to arrive sometime in the next fortnight. We anticipate the children being excited to see the crane lift the modular sections into place so will ensure they have a safe place to view all the action on the day.

Sadly, we have hit a road bump with the administration weather-tightness project.  The Ministry of Education is needing to approve a request for additional funding, as the refurbishment costs become on par with what a new build would have been. The board and I are doing all we can to keep things moving and apologise for the ongoing inconvenience this is causing. With such a busy school, we are desperate to have this building back up and running and have found working with MOE very frustrating and time-consuming. Thank you for your patience.

I'd like to acknowledge our amazing teaching staff who have been busy completing the end of year student assessments. They take great care to ensure the achievement data collected and analysed is ready to be shared in your child's end of year written report. This will be sent home with your child on Friday 11th December.  The information collected from these assessments also helps us to evaluate the level of progress and success we have had across the year. It is a very busy time for our teachers and they manage this additional workload with such high levels of professionalism.

The senior playground is being prepped for a major upgrade. It is now temporarily closed as we have taken some of the equipment down to send to the powdercoaters. On 16th November, Playground Creations will begin installing the new equipment which will double the size of the existing playground. We are asking for parent help with sanding the current timber posts and platforms. If you are free to pop along on Friday 13th to help sand we would be very grateful. Please email to let me know. This work will ensure the timber is safe for the children to use and make it blend in with the new extension equipment.

A special thank you to Daisy and Dylan from Room 24. These budding authors shared some creative writing with me this afternoon. Seeing and hearing how proud they were of their progress and achievements in writing was the highlight of my day.
In the next school newsletter, I will be sharing information about class structures and staffing for 2021.

Urgent message
re:New Entrant Enrolments

Do you have a child turning 5 later this year or during 2021?

We urgently need an indication of how many 5 year olds we will be expecting to start school in 2021. If you have a child due to start school next year, please come and see us to complete the enrolment paperwork.

This helps us to plan a smooth transition into school for your child; helps us to plan staffing for the New Entrant classes; and ensures that you are invited to the relevant parent information meetings. Thank you.
New Opportunity at Tahatai in 2021
Important: 2021 Uniform Expectations
In 2021 there will be an expectation for all students to wear the correct navy uniform. The change from the previous teal coloured uniform has been gradually staggered across three years. This was to allow time for families to adjust and manage the cost of this change. In 2021, we want to ensure high standards of uniform so that every child is seen and treated as equals. We appreciate your support with this.
