TCS Times

Nau mai, haere mai ngā whānau o te kura o Tahatai.  A very warm welcome to all our TCS students and their families.

With recent developments, I'll keep things brief for today's newsletter.

The past two days have been eventful as we all try and get our heads around the community spread of COVID-19 in Auckland. The key is that we are business as usual and that the students are being well cared for and challenged with their learning.

I would like to thank you all for your ongoing support and sense of community.  Alert Level 2 is made so much easier with parents and caregivers working in partnership with the school. The result is happy students feeling safe and confident each day.

In case the government decides to move us into a higher alert level, I have staff working behind the scenes to ensure we are ready to roll out distance learning. At this stage, planning is only precautionary and we have been using feedback from parents to ensure we can further improve the distance delivery from the original lockdown. To help the school plan, teachers will be emailing you about your child's ability to access online learning while at home.  As well, a survey will be coming out shortly to see how many children of essential workers Tahatai would need to cater for if ever placed under Alert Level 3.  I thank you in advance for assisting us with gathering this information as quickly as possible.

I'd like to do a quick shout out to the nine students who placed 2nd at this week's Regional DanceNZ Made Competition. This is an outstanding result and showcases the amazing talent we have here at Tahatai Coast School.

Junior Tough Guy and Gal Challenge
On Tuesday we had 85 children represent Tahatai Coast School at the Junior Tough Guy and Gal Challenge.  This was held at Baypark in perfect conditions for a mud run, with a steady stream of rain pouring down.  Congratulations to all our students that entered this event and made their way around the challenging course.  A big thank you to the parents/caregivers and whānau that came along to support the children.
Policy Review: Whānau Input

Once a term, the SchoolDocs team gathers and collates feedback on policy content, using it to revise and update where appropriate. This means that our school benefits from the collective review of the policy, as other schools may have:

• experiences dealing with issues that our school hasn’t faced yet

• board personnel with particular skills and insights

• different cultures and contexts that provide a more well-rounded view of the policy/procedure.

As parents/caregivers, if you wish to be involved in this review:

  1. Visit the website

  2. Enter the username (tahatai) and password (coast).

  3. Follow the link to the relevant policy as listed.

  4. Read the policy.

  5. Click the Policy Review button at the top right-hand corner of the page.

  6. Select the reviewer type "Parent".

  7. Enter your name (optional).

  8. Submit your ratings and comments.

  9. If you don't have internet access, the school office staff can provide you with printed copies of the policy and a review form.

This term, parents/caregivers are invited to review the Learning Support policy.

New Entrant Enrolments

Do you have a child turning 5 in the next 6 months?

It would be greatly appreciated if you could enrol your child 6 months prior to their intended start date at school...or as soon as possible if they are starting school this year.

This helps us to plan a smooth transition into school for your child; helps us to plan staffing for the New Entrant classes; and ensures that you are invited to the relevant parent information meetings.
Yummy Stickers
We have registered for another year.
Collect the Yummy cut-out labels from bags (each cut-out label is worth 10 stickers) and individual Yummy apple stickers for your school’s share of the $200,000 free DG Sport sports gear prize pool. Yummy apples are available from New World, PAK’nSAVE and participating Four Square stores. The more you collect, the more sports gear you get so get going and start collecting your Yummy cut-out labels and stickers now!
The students are really enjoying playing with all the equipment from last year's yummy stickers collection.
They are free to use it at lunchtimes.
Keep munching on those apples and collecting those stickers, sheets are available to download and print at - or send the stickers along to class.
