TCS Times

Nau mai, haere mai ngā whānau o te kura o Tahatai.  A very warm welcome to all our TCS students and their families.

I'd like to thank you for the ongoing support you have shown the school as we continue to navigate our way through Alert Level 2. The way the students have responded is a credit to the partnership in which Tahatai Coast School works. Throughout the past couple of weeks we have seen the children continue to thrive despite changes to the break times, restrictions on parents not being able to enter classrooms, and the cancellation of some events.
With the added pressures caused by the Covid-19 crisis, we have been doing our very best to juggle changes to our school calendar. We apologise for any inconvenience or disappointment cancellations may have caused you or your child. The balancing act of postponing events needs to take into consideration the already busy school calendar. Our latest challenge has seen us having to cancel swimming lessons. The original dates have been moved three times due to Covid-19 restrictions, with transport being our biggest concern.
You may have noticed the new Kiss'n Go signs. These have been introduced to support parents in understanding the rules to ensure the safety of students being dropped off to school. They will also help with the smooth running and efficiency of this fantastic resource. We appreciate you reading these and adhering to the advice they provide.
The Student Council has been busy behind the scenes working on the design of the new senior playground. These Year 3-6 students are ensuring the presence of student's voice in the design of a new playground extension intended to happen in Term 4. The senior playground will be a welcome addition to the school and is a result of the collective efforts of the Tahatai School PTA and Board of Trustees.
Over recent weeks we have seen an increase in students wearing wheelie shoes to school. We would appreciate these are not worn as they not only mark the flooring but have also been the cause of a number of tumbles and collisions.

Policy Review: Whānau Input

Once a term, the SchoolDocs team gathers and collates feedback on policy content, using it to revise and update where appropriate. This means that our school benefits from the collective review of the policy, as other schools may have:

• experiences dealing with issues that our school hasn’t faced yet

• board personnel with particular skills and insights

• different cultures and contexts that provide a more well-rounded view of the policy/procedure.

As parents/caregivers, if you wish to be involved in this review:

  1. Visit the website

  2. Enter the username (tahatai) and password (coast).

  3. Follow the link to the relevant policy as listed.

  4. Read the policy.

  5. Click the Policy Review button at the top right-hand corner of the page.

  6. Select the reviewer type "Parent".

  7. Enter your name (optional).

  8. Submit your ratings and comments.

  9. If you don't have internet access, the school office staff can provide you with printed copies of the policy and a review form.

This term, parents/caregivers are invited to review the Learning Support policy.

New Entrant Enrolments

Do you have a child turning 5 in the next 6 months?

It would be greatly appreciated if you could enrol your child 6 months prior to their intended start date at school...or as soon as possible if they are starting school this year.

This helps us to plan a smooth transition into school for your child; helps us to plan staffing for the New Entrant classes; and ensures that you are invited to the relevant parent information meetings.
Entertainment Books
Thanks for your support last year! We raised $1550!
You can help our fundraising again this year by buying a 12-month Entertainment Membership.
20% of every sale supports the PTA to provide extra resources for our school community.
