Weekly EBlast

Dear Ladies,

I want to broach the subject of our meetings and events next season while there is time to do this before we all get so busy when Fall arrives. Our General Meetings and Events have been a challenge to schedule and we want to give everyone a “heads up” regarding an increase in pricing and what all that entails. In addition, some venues that we have enjoyed using, such as the Botanical Garden, are currently not allowing outside groups to hold meetings on their premises. Covid brought not just an increase in pricing for food, but added charges now for room rentals in country clubs, mandatory valet parking charges, gratuity increase from 20 to 22 percent and flat fees for extra cleaning services. Part of this increase is to accommodate lost revenue and part of it is for the extra labor and services involved in accommodating larger groups. We have had to change a number of venues (the new event space at Artis-Naples, Baker Museum, for example) due to them coming back to us after we had agreed upon a date and price, with a much higher price than originally given to us that was too costly.

That being said, we are kicking off the season with a meeting at Baker Park in the Sugden-Gomez Center on November 15, a special and novel location with the President of FGCU, Dr. Michael Martin as our speaker, a catered box lunch from Artichoke and Company (the same caterer that Artis Naples uses) and a trolley ride from Fleischmann Park to Baker Park to help ease the limited parking availability.

I will be re-iterating some of this in the Fall Newsletter, but also felt it was a good time to let you all know hurdles the “Covid Transition Time” is presenting for our meetings and events.

We thank you in advance for being nimble, good natured and prepared!
Oh, in case you are sitting on the edge of your seat regarding the weather report from the Midwest, going on 12 (or more) days of grey and random rain and storms….just knew you were dying to know!

Melissa McClayton, President

Meetings and Events are now listed online! Go to the Member Home Page and on the left hand side is the Meetings and Events Category in green. Click and see from September until next May the information that is listed. The general information and dates are listed with more specific information forthcoming as the dates draw near.

Thank you to the ladies who volunteered to be mentors to new members and contacted Marie Buckley.  Your outreach is very much appreciated.

Diane Frisicaro has been busy following up with her Naples Tables Sponsorship Committee and is pleased to inform us that FineMark Bank, John R. Wood and Patina Collection have signed on as Sponsors.  We are on our way to making “The Goodness of Gathering” a memorable event.

The next event will be the end of September, Potluck Dinner, at Liz Winebrenner’s home. Summer luncheons do not occur in August.
CIC in Action

Naples Senior Center at JFCS (NCS) empowers seniors and their families by giving them tools to address life’s challenges. 67% of the agency’s clients are over 75, and almost all are on fixed incomes. Due to Covid-19 NCS pivoted from providing in-house lunches at the agency to setting up a home delivery service. The Senior Lunchbox sends volunteers to visit seniors every Wednesday. Clients are visited by the same volunteer, allowing for a visual check-in.

Each week volunteers bring seniors a hot lunch, several bags of food specifically selected to meet individual need, and personal hygiene products. The League Club grant will provide 2,100 hot lunches and 4,200 bags of food on a weekly basis to 156 vulnerable, food insecure seniors.
