BAG February Newsletter

Next Meeting (Virtual): Tue, Mar 9, 1:00-2:30 p.m.
  • BAG Member Meeting (Virtual) at 1:00-2:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of every month
  • Our monthly art theme for March is “Spring Break.”
  • Upload a photo of art on the theme to share during the meeting at this link. Uploading photos of your art to the website so Camie could share the images as a slideshow worked so well that we strongly encourage you to do this rather than hold the art up to your camera.
  • The meeting will take place on Google Meet (meeting link).
As part of our mission to connect with each other and support each other as people and artists, we are hosting virtual monthly member meetings, easily joined from home using a computer, tablet, or smartphone.

We look forward to seeing you all at our next meeting, Tuesday, March 9!

Feb 9 Meeting Recap

We had about 20 members join our February 9 meeting. It was great to see everyone and share the art that everyone created for our monthly theme (Where the Heart Is).

View the variety of beautiful art submitted for our February art theme gallery here on the BAG website.

It’s not too late!! If you produced art or want to produce art and share it for our February "Where the Heart Is" theme, you can upload your art at https://www.broomfieldartguild.org/meetings/ and click the Upload Art button.
BAG Bylaws Revision

The Broomfield Art Guild Bylaws are a short, living document that govern how we run our Guild. Every few years, they need revision in order to clean up and clarify some of the language and fairly represent how we currently do business, especially with the importance of online activity. At the February member meeting, we briefly reviewed proposed Bylaws changes, primarily membership definitions, officer duties, and art display guidelines.

We addressed two concerns: 1) eliminating the requirement that all displayed art be for sale, and 2) keeping minimum Guild membership age at 18. After discussion, the majority of the members present were in agreement that, while most artists are interested in selling their work, all artists should have the flexibility to decide whether or not their displayed art is for sale. This would encourage artists to show more of their work, including favorite pieces that they want to keep for themselves. Members were also agreed that minimum Guild member age should stay 18, but this rule does not prevent the Guild from including younger artists in its activities as a way to encourage, mentor, and support the arts in Broomfield.

At the end of discussion, the proposed Bylaws changes passed with unanimous approval. The updated Bylaws are being sent to all members.
BAG Art Exhibitions

Broomfield Art Guild is showing member artwork in the upstairs gallery at the new Broomfield Community Center February to April and again in August to October. Camie's boxing class says it's amazing! And Patty Jones sold both of her pieces in the exhibit after they had only been hanging a few days! Congratulations Patty!

Go to the Public Art Displays tab on our website to see photos of the art on display, or go to BCC and sign in at the front desk to see the art in person!
iPie Pizza exhibit space is hosting pieces by Margretta Perry in February.

Di Ciero City and County Building is hosting pieces by Camie Rigirozzi and Gerry Case in February.

Plein Air, Urban Paint-Outs, Social/Art Meetups
Camie, Kim, and Cathy had a session of pub sketching in January and had a lot of fun. Broomfield is currently on "yellow concern" for Covid precaution, so we are trending in the right direction. Lately, the weather has been too cold for patio sketching, but let Camie or Cathy know if you would be interested in future social sketching sessions or have a location to recommend. Please wear masks and socially distance!

October Member Show
Currently scheduled for the month of October in-person at the Westminster College Hill Library. This will be our big show for the year. If we proceed, we will expect everyone to participate and volunteer. We will start recruiting show chairs and a planning team in March.

December Christmas Party
Tentatively scheduled in-person at Cinzetti’s, details TBD.
Reminder: Member information and dues now can be entered, updated, and paid online!
Go to the membership tab on our website. New and old members can enter name, address, email, phone, and indicate what information they want included in the member directory. Optionally, you can add a short description of your preferred art media and subjects to be included in the directory. Please use this form to make any changes for 2021. If your 2020 information is still current, then no action is needed.
