Genesis and Partners Attend IN-MaC
Micro-Grant Summit
Hosted by Purdue University, the Indiana Manufacturing Competitiveness Center (IN-MaC) is a program designed to create and promote a strong, competitive manufacturing environment in Indiana.  IN-MaC aims to revitalize the American Dream by preparing future generations for  soon-to-be transformations in the field of manufacturing.  This includes addressing current challenges such as the advancement of technology, the lack of investment knowledge, and the shortage of employees.  The Three Trust Approach, areas of concentration used within the program, are as follows: Research for Future Competitiveness, Education & Workforce Development, and Technology Adoption & Transfer.  In-MaC also provides Micro-Grants to schools, industries, and community-based organizations who implement creative projects that enhance youth experiences and provide exposure to manufacturing.  This past Wednesday, Genesis and partners spoke at the first annual IN-MaC Micro-Grant Impact Summit at the Indiana Manufacturing Institute.  The panel discussion, moderated by Cheryll Obendorf, GPS Director, focused on programs and projects in Ripley County that were funded by the In-MaC micro-grants.  Those included 6th grade Manufacturing Day, VEX Robotics, Manufacturing Camp, Outreach to Students, and the Southeastern Career Center Fearless Females Event.  Panelists included Brandy Hicks with Milan School Corporation, Amelia Comer with Jac-Cen-Del School Corporation, Jill Hollins with St. Louis Catholic School, and Lauren Mynsberge with Batesville Tool & Die.
The Governor's Work Ethic Certificate
Attention SENIORS: Talk to your guidance counselor about applying for the WEC!

Cheryll Obendorf, Executive Director of GPS (Genesis: Pathways to Success), recently met with Jac-Cen-Del parents and students about the Governor's Work Ethic Certificate (WEC).  WEC is designed to connect employers to their local school district in the attempt to search and provide future qualified employee opportunities.  The program also teaches students the employability skills needed in the workplace, along with understanding the importance of responsibility and
perseverance.  By earning this certificate, students have demonstrated that they meet the nine competencies required and possess the skills needed in order to be successful at post-secondary institutions, apprenticeships, the military, or the workforce.
In 2019, 81 students from the graduating classes of Ripley County School Districts and Oldenburg Academy met the criteria and earned the WEC.

Back to School Kickoffs
Recently, the Ripley County Community Schools began the 2019-2020 School Year.  Prior to the first day of school, South Ripley Elementary, Junior High, and High School held a "Back to School Kickoff" Event.  Genesis helped coordinate the Junior High / High School event by inviting business partners to participate in a job fair as part of the event.  Genesis attended the kickoff, networking with students, parents, teachers, and business partners in its mission to expand and enhance educational and economic opportunities in our area.

In addition to this, on Thursday, August 22nd, the Southeastern Career Center had a College and Career Connections evening where students had the opportunity to connect and learn about local employers and schools.  Those present were Genesis: Pathways to Success, The Friendship State Bank, Indiana Virtual Academy, The National Guard, Ivy Tech Community College, and many more!
