August Newsletter

The Care Leavers National Movement (CLNM) have been busy over the past few months peer evaluating their House Projects, using the National House Project practice framework to facilitate this. They have had an amazing residential in The Lake District and are now in full swing planning a conference. This newsletter is designed to update you on what we have been up to and to share our successes.

Welcome

Care Leavers National Movement is a growing movement of young people from House Projects across England and Scotland.

Our Vision is to authentically engage young people to develop care leaving services.

We have four main aims:
  • Share successes
  • Raise challenges
  • Peer evaluate House Projects
  • Test new ideas
You can find out more about the CLNM on our website here

Our Residential

Our residential took place at YMCA Lakeside in the Lake district and was nothing short of fantastic.

For the full update on our time in the Lakes check out our news article on our website and don't forget to watch our amazing video to see some of the highlights.

Peer Evaluations

'Peer Evaluation' is one of our four aims and we are excited to have finished the fieldwork and have now started analysing the data. It is important to The National House Project that young people's views shape the development of House Projects across the country and peer evaluations is one way that we can ensure that happens. You can recap the fieldwork stage of our Peer Evaluations here.

Matthew from Partnership 4 Young London (a specialist in research, policy and campaigns) joined us on our residential to develop our skills in data analysis to enable us to analyse the data that we captured from the peer evaluation interviews. We had lots of transcripts to review which enabled us to identify key themes. Our findings will be shared at our *'Community' themed CLNM conference on Friday 22nd October.

*Community is one of the three area's of the National House Projects practice framework (ORCHIDS)  that CLNM chose to focus their Peer Evaluations on.

We have designed our peer evaluation so it is meaningful to us and our peers, yet also useful to The NHP. Here is what CEO Mark Warr has to say about the importance of peer evaluation.

Best Practice

CLNM play a crucial role in sharing information and feedback from their peers within the House Project community with The National House Project which ensures ongoing co-production and communication. One way that we do this is by gathering and sharing examples of best practice from across House Projects in order to celebrate success and generate new ideas and creativity. However, we also share this with the wider care leaver community within Local Authorities to encourage the use of care experienced people as ‘expert advisors’ enriched with the tools needed to support positive change in leaving care services. Young Peoples Voice

CLNM are some of the young people at the heart of developing House Projects for our Peers to follow. We carry the voice of 300 other young people in the House Project community to develop House Projects across local authorities. Here are some quotes from our community that we want to share with you-
"Be happy and don't be scared to try new things"
"Don't let people treat you less than you are, otherwise you will become less than you are"
“The Care Leavers National Movement has made me feel wanted in life, it’s a community that is my safe haven”
"Always have a go even if you are scared, you never know if you will get another chance"

CLNM Conference

Make a donation to the National House Project and support care leavers like us. £25 could provide monthly data to a young person to enable them to access college work and be connected to their friends and the outside world
