Our August 24th, 2021 Newsletter
~ the Iona Edition ~
Apply today for our May 2022 Pilgrimages to Sacred Ireland and Iona, Scotland!

The well-worn pilgrims path to the Abbey at Iona, Scotland -
a sacred place of pilgrimage for over a thousand years...

After an extended season of confinement and disruption, are your hearts, like ours, yearning for a journey into the beautiful known of the beguiling locales of Ireland and Scotland and the mysterious unknowns of a truly unique, healing, and refreshing interior journey along the Celtic Way?

The Abbey and High Crosses at Iona...

As we prepare this newsletter we know that many have had to cancel or postpone their 2021 travel plans, as we have had to do as well in these uncertain times.  For those that were already planning a trip to Ireland or Iona, we'd like to extend an invitation to join us, for our Sacred Ireland Pilgrimage, or our Iona, Scotland Pilgrimage.  Our reservations are secure and strongly beckoning.  There are discounts for those that can join us for both and our cancellation policy will remain generous throughout next year.

Always look up!  Windows and arches inside the Abbey....

The photos in this "Iona" Edition newsletter were all taken during a sojourn on the island in 2018.  Iona, Scotland is a tiny island off the southwest coast of Mull in the Inner Hebrides. It is only 1.5 miles wide by 3 miles long, with a population of around 120 permanent residents.  One resident of which will be our Pilgrimage walking guide!

How will simplicity impact our lives?

For centuries, Iona has had a special place in the heart of many around the world.  And some modern pilgrims, having experienced the wild ocean breezes and spiritually palpable "thin places", where it is said that the time between now and eternity comes together, return for refreshment year after year.

Emerging from a quiet meditation inside St. Oran's Chapel...

Now is the time to get your application + $25 non-refundable application fee in! We will gather applications and then issue the invitations to join us for our May & September 2022 Pilgrimages!

The Beauty of the Island, sun, and sea, and stone...

Everywhere one turns on this wonderful isle, one is greeted by natural beauty.  Our guests will have plenty of quiet time to reflect on their own around the times that are scheduled.  We know that you will find the timing and rhythm of our journey a wonderful balm to the challenges of the past few years.

Farewell beautiful isle, until we meet again ...

Clear, clean water is everywhere on Iona, and after a good (often) rain, the damp, green grasses and plants glisten.  The flowers below are believed to be "Ivy Leaved Toadflax" : ). They are seen here discovered growing on a wall of the ruins of the 14th century Augustinian Nunnery, one of our favorite places to spend time...

Having sat with the raindrops, cool sea breezes and lovely quiet of Iona, one's heart becomes full and ready to return home with thankfulness for the simple joys of life ...

An outer journey combined with an inner journey focus is central to Celtic Way Pilgrimages...

The point of traveling is not to arrive...
But to return home
Laden with pollen
To be worked up
Into sweet honey
that the mind and soul shall savor....

Paraphrased from R.S. Thomas, a Welsh Poet & Priest

About Celtic Way Pilgrimages

At Culture Honey, we have discovered a deeply fulfilling spiritual thread of the Christian faith originating in Celtic Ireland and Scotland.  We have written many articles which are published on CultureHoney.com about travel to these lovely countries and the benefits of the Celtic pathway to the modern, spiritual, and holistic human experience. Our favorite influences are David Whyte, John Philip Newelland Richard Rohr to name a few! We have experienced the beauty in these serene and sometimes rugged destinations and we have known the peace that the spiritual practices of liturgy, silence and meditation offer us. We have enjoyed and benefited greatly from learning the historical stories and significance of the places we plan to visit. Now it is our great joy to offer to share these things with you!
