The Opera House Players replace the stage floor.
In and effort to keep the Elkader Opera House in good shape as well as constantly improve the structure, as well as the theater goer's and performer's experience, the Opera House Players have replaced the stage floor at the Opera House. We made sure to use the exact same type of wood as the original.
This also gave us the opportunity to level, strengthen, and upgrade the sub-floor and support beams.
We're excited for everyone to see our beautiful new floor, and the perfect opportunity is coming with the February 23rd 2pm "All things Broadway" performance, as well as "Four Weddings and an Elvis" in early April.
We've learned in the past and know currently the truth of the phrase:
PARDON OUR DUST
So now we're putting out a call to all OHP friends & family. After a small group of dedicated volunteers worked tirelessly to remove and replace the floor, we need to get the place cleaned for upcoming events, we could really use the help of people who like to, or don't mind cleaning. The more vacuums we have the faster this will all go.
Work is scheduled this Satruday starting at 9am and may run into Sunday. This was a big project and looks great! You can see some photos on the Elkader Opera House Facebook page
For those of you still reading, here's a list of some of the things we still need to get done before our next show.
*The tenting that protected the main seating can come down.
*Dressing room, the pit, and green room need to be cleaned.
*There also most likely will be staining that needs to be done on the pit rail and also some painting on the front edge of the stage.
*We’ll also need to get the rigging ropes reattached to the stage floor.
*Access to the piano garage still needs to be finished.
*The theater seating area will need dusting and vacuuming after all the construction that was done. (that's why people bringing a vacuum that they like to use would ensure that LOTS of people could work and the project would go fast).
Thanks for all your support! Hope to see you at the opera house!
