Dodoma, Tanzania with Water4Mercy and Innovation Africa

At the end of December CultivAid has the great honor of visiting the Dodoma Region of Tanzania.  The visit was in collaboration with Water4Mercy and Innovation Africa, who have been working with local communities to provide Water and Solar energy.  The Visit coincided with Innovation Africa's first installation of drip irrigation at Mwinyi Village in Tanzania.

During the visit CultivAid evaluated various projects and organizations in the area in order to understand the challenges of the region and the opportunities.  The area has developed strong production of grapes for wine, fruit trees such as Mango and Avocado have huge potential and vegetable production is rapidly increasing as Dodoma city transforms into the modern capital of the country.  While the area has great potential it faces many challenges and hurdles.  The semi-arid climate and scarce water availability will require technology and knowledge that can support the regional development of the area.

The visit evaluated the establishment of a program together with Don Bosco, Dodoma  and to establish the Water4Mercy school of Agriculture at Don Bosco.  We hope that this first step will enable the development of a partnership that can replicate our model, diffuse the knowledge and technology while providing new job opportunities for youth, .The vision is that to have this one pilot transform to implementation throughout the continent.

CultivAid is supporting the development of technology transfer, knowledge development and capacity building in North Shewa. The program is supporting the Beta Israel community of North Shewa and engaging in a regional development program.  The Beta Israel are a community with historical ties to Judaism that is re-emerging and connecting back.

In November of 2019, CultivAid led a delegation by American Friends of Beta Israel, North Shewa.  The delegation aimed to initiate relationships between the community and the American Jewish Community. The visit provided deep insight into the Beta Israel in the region and to Ethiopia at large.

During the visit we all got to take part in the launching of Ethiopia 25th STEM center, which is being developed and implemented with our partners STEMPOWER
