Starting this week: Upgrade of Cooper and Charlton Streets  - Stage 1.1
Wednesday 22 May 2019 

Car park closures
16 car spaces have been removed from the Cessnock City Centre car park to allow for site preparation. Adjacent parking will remain available throughout the works.

Friday 24 May 2019

Electronic traffic signs installation

Road users and pedestrians will be made aware of the changing circumstances ahead.

Sunday 26 May 2019 (from 9pm)

Works starting

Works are scheduled to start Sunday night with the temporary removal of the roundabout at Charlton and Cooper Streets. The intersection will be closed from 9pm to 5am. Traffic control will be in place.

Standard work hours will apply for the following days. Businesses will be notified prior to the commencement of further night works.

Monday 27 May 2019 (from 5am)

Detours and road closures in place

The Charlton and Cooper street intersection will reopen from 5am, allowing one way traffic access through the work zone. Detours will be in place as works are carried out.

Temporary pedestrian access will also be in place to ensure foot traffic can access businesses throughout the construction period.

Standard work hours:
7am to 6pm Monday to Friday
7am to 5pm Saturday


Night work hours:
9pm to 5am Sunday to Thursday

What is being achieved?

Completion of  the North Avenue and Keene Street night works

Night works have ended on North Avenue and Keene Street, with the completion of kerbs and road resurfacing.  Landscape planting, signs and line marking will also be completed in the next few days. The new and safer pedestrian crossing will shortly be finalised, but is already fully accessible. 
The pedestrian facilities have been relocated further west
