A few weeks back we celebrated the one-year anniversary of Your 4 Walls with a look back at some of our best design tips, tricks of the trade, and Dwayne’s expertise as a design pro. This week, we’re rewinding the clock again to remember some of the lifestyle suggestions Dwayne has shared. Through his lens as the arbiter of style, listening to, imagining, and implementing the life his clients want to live, Dwayne has a deep understanding of how our lifestyle effects our lives. From his favorite recipes to entertaining tips and activities for the kids, we’ve covered it all on Y4W!
Unless you’re new here you know that Dwayne is an avid baker – even trying his hand at making labor intensive heritage breads last year. He’s also the cook in his household and his green thumb in the garden pays off in bountiful rewards for his family table. Some of his best recipe suggestions shared through Your 4 Walls have been his herb infused cocktails, non-dairy homemade ice creams, and traditional holiday treats like his maple bourbon chocolate pecan pie. Dwayne also encouraged his readers to make the most of quarantine downtown by traveling the world through cuisine, educating yourself on wine pairing, and planning an indoor picnic. All of these activities and more make mealtime into an experience, proven to increase satisfaction while creating lasting memories in and out of the kitchen.
Dwayne is a firm believer in loving where you live, but last year tested that theory like never before. In addition to the design tips he shared on how to enhance your home to function better for your lifestyle, he also taught us how to experience our home through activities and intentions. For example, upgrading your Master Bathroom with a few simple swaps to transform it into an at-home space or designating zones in your backyard for activities, conversation, and dining for a “getting out while staying in” experience. He also recommended taking a staycation in your guest room, complete with fluffy robes and breakfast in bed for a mini retreat, no passport required. Switching up your routine and how you live within your space from time to time gives you a whole new appreciation of your home.
As the parent of twin boys, Dwayne’s hands were full this year trying to keep them occupied, engaged, stimulated, and out of trouble! For our readers with kiddos at home, Dwayne shared some of his go-to suggestions for healthy activities to keep them moving, crafts to express their creativity, and things you can do together for holidays and everyday enjoyment. Some of the favorites have been teaching kids the joys and rewards of gardening, passing down cooking skills, and some backyard exercises to do as a family. He also encouraged little ones to get involved when planning those “Travel Nights”, inviting them to do the research and share their findings. Over the course of Your 4 Walls, the activities and suggestions grew alongside his boys, gradually getting more robust, complex and fit for the big boys they’re becoming.
