After almost a year of finding creative ways for us and our families to stay busy, we’re all scratching our heads wondering how we’re going to keep it up through the winter. Luckily for us here in sunny southwest Florida, there are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy while staying safe. In our ever-present commitment to helping you embrace your four walls, Dwayne Bergmann has some ideas, recommendations and suggestions to stay entertained all winter long!
When he finds a rare quiet moment of respite – between cooking for the family, his exercise and wellness practices, and running his business – Dwayne winds down with movies, tv shows, podcasts, music, and books to enjoy a much need break from reality. Lately he has been loving the HBO drama starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant, The Undoing. Not just for the suspense, but for the killer fashion and to die for interiors! After devouring Becoming by Michelle Obama earlier this year, the book he hasn’t been able to put down lately is The Queen’s Gambit by Walter Tevis. With just a few chapters to go, he can’t wait to dive into the much talked about tv series of the same name. Taking a break from his usual music library, Dwayne has been tuning into the How I Built This podcast, highly recommended for those interested in learning from business leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs on their secrets of success. Dwayne wants to know what you’ve been enjoying! Reply with your recommendations.
A great way to pepper in some fun to your daily routine is picking up new hobbies and activities to try. For Dwayne, it has been taking his love of baking to the next level by making heritage breads with milled wheats from Janie’s Mill. The process is time consuming and requires daily care, but the results, including sourdough, artisanal wheat, fruit and nut, and of course, sweet varietals are well worth the commitment to his newfound craft. To stay active, he and his little ones have enjoyed virtual family workouts, teaching them the importance of keeping fit while having fun. You may have seen friends and family leaning into their artistic side, sharing their quarantine art on social media. You don’t have to be an expert to enjoy the therapeutic activity of painting, drawing, coloring, or creating something with your hands. If you haven’t tried your hand – or should we say thumb – at gardening, what are you waiting for! Wintertime in Florida is the perfect time to start your home garden to get your hands dirty as a family and enjoy the fruits (and vegetables) of your labor.
Tis the season… for Farmer’s Markets! Dwayne and his family enjoying making regular trips to their local outposts to pick up fresh produce, flowers, and goodies for the week. Wintertime in Florida is peak season for so many wonderful options, but Dwayne especially loves the selection of squash and leafy greens. He’s already experimented with an assortment of veggie infused breads with his harvest haul. Take your time strolling through your local market to touch, taste, and smell – and don’t be shy about asking for preparation suggestions from the vendors. Dwayne recommends trying some varieties you’ve never seen before, you may just find a new favorite!
