With Halloween just around the corner, we’re all getting into the spirit of the season. While last year trick or treating and costume parties weren’t possible, this year we plan to make up for lost time. So far this October, Dwayne has embraced the spookiness of the Halloween season with fun crafts, custom costumes, and to die for recipes your party guests or hosts are sure to love. Decorate your home with some scary good styling tips and welcome trick or treaters with festive and safe sweets.
If you plan to host a spooky soiree this year, opt for an elevated yet equally scary stylish display. Nothing screams chic like black pumpkins! Grab some high gloss paint and spray similarly sized pumpkins in a uniform coat. Line them up down pathways or place them on every other stair. For tabletop décor, place 3-4 in a row and place votives or elegant candelabras between them for a glamorous, Addams Family-esque display. If you prefer a more natural look, seek out white and “blue” pumpkins to mix in with traditional orange. These unexpected colors can add a soft warmth to the home well beyond October 31st.
Dwayne loves to think outside of the box when it comes to costumes. Never one to opt for pre-selected ensembles, his love of custom and bespoke carries over to Halloween too. This year, he and his family are putting their group costume to a vote. Whether it will be inspired by pop culture, favorite characters, new takes on classic costumes or something totally unexpected remains to be seen. But one thing is for sure, costumes are always better when they’re handmade!
Whether you’re hosting or attending a Halloween party or just want to enjoy some spookiness throughout the season, Dwayne has a few new favorite recipes to share that are frightfully good. Lately, he has been experimenting with activated charcoal, adding the toxin-absorbing ingredient to sourdough breads and ice cream. Aside from the health benefits, it turns the dish a great shade of deep grey to black making it a perfect addition to your Halloween menu. If you’re hosting a dinner party, you might consider serving squid ink pasta for the same ghoulish effect.
