For Dwayne Bergmann, November 1st marks the beginning of the holiday season. Pumpkins turn into soup and faux cobwebs give way to garland. It’s never too early to start preparing for the holidays, but this year especially, we’re getting a head start. While the holiday season will look very different this year, Dwayne has some festive ideas, timely suggestions, and warm wishes to keep your traditions alive and spirits bright.
Travel limitations might mean your guest list is shorter than usual this year, but intimate gatherings can often be even more special with details to delight. If like Dwayne, you’ll be hosting a few trusted houseguests this year, make the experience one to remember! Transform your guest room into a getaway retreat with hotel-like accommodations. Think mint on their pillow, turn down service, and a stack of fluffy white towels with matching robes. Set up a coffee and breakfast bar for morning mealtime and complimentary snack buffet throughout the day. Your guests are sure to feel welcome and pampered in their home away from home.

Pro tip: If you are not traveling or hosting out of towners this year, use the guest room to create a special retreat for a luxurious staycation. Add some chilled champagne and order “room service” from your favorite restaurant.
Back in July we suggested to start thinking about your holiday shopping plan, now that it’s upon us, Dwayne shares some suggestions for maximizing your efforts. With online holiday shopping steadily increasing with each passing year, 2020 is sure to see a huge spike in demand. That means sold out product, shipping delays, and expensive delivery fees. Avoid the mayhem that is sure to kick off by Black Friday and start your gift sourcing now! From electronics to toys, clothes to home décor, books to jewelry, many retailers already have their holiday collections available. Waiting for sales to kick in? So is everyone else! Shop early to avoid missing out on your must haves. Another option is to avoid physical gifting altogether and opt for virtual experiences like a Masterclass, at-home gym memberships, and subscription boxes for every interest.
Whether you’re expecting guests or it’s just your family unit, make the holidays merry and bright with some thoughtful swaps throughout your home. Dwayne loves to change out his usual soft and floral candles for their woodsy scented counterparts. His family looks forward to holiday music all year round so the classics, old and new favorites, and guilty pleasures can be heard ringing through the halls all season. Build up the excitement all month long with warming creations like chili, soup, cooked-all-day dishes, and whiskey-based cocktails. Incorporate spices like cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg into your coffee and baked goods to fill your home with the scent memories of holidays past. As you slowly but surely transition your home from autumnal bliss to holiday cheer, invite your little ones to be part of the process. Making new memories along the way.
In honor of Gratitude Month, we’d like to take a moment to thank our incredible team for their hard work all year round. This year brought more than its fair share of challenges, but the DBI met them with grace and poise.
